Summary:
On the high seas, a three ship convoy comes under attack by missiles. After the first ship is hit, the ship in the rear moves up and defends the main ship with its missiles and guns. We learn that in this world, a huge typhoon called the Grand Roar appeared in the Pacific Ocean, and as a result, the global climate changed and there’s a lot more water now. But with the development of the new world, there are also organized terrorists - pirates. The rise of pirates also gave rise to private enterprises of self defense organizations.
Flashback to when he was younger, Nagimiya Hyousuke remembers being separated from his sister, and her saying that they’d meet again on the ocean. Now that he’s grown up a bit, Hyousuke has just landing at an airport and is looking around after getting off the shuttle when a woman, Clio Aquanaut, runs into him while she’s being chased by a throng of young girls. Hyousuke gets caught up in the chase and Clio throws him into a car while she continues to run off on foot. The car’s owner, Fukami Sango, gets in thinking that Hyousuke is her friend Kairi Miharu, who is actually outside the car. Sango panics and starts recklessly driving all over the place. They’re finally stopped on the beach, when Akoya Manatsu and her twin Akoya Mashuu stop the car with paint guns.
The girls take a passed out Hyousuke and dump him in a public bath where their friends Watatsumi Tsubasa and Shimabara Mitori are bathing. Having been seen naked by a boy, Tsubasa is less than happy and starts beating on Hyousuke until she’s stopped by a senior company official who tells them that Hyousuke is a technician here to update the ship’s systems. Then Misaki Nanaha, captain of the “Pascal Mage� arrives. To everyone’s surprise, Hyousuke identifies her as “Nana-nee,� since she’s the girl who he remembers from before. But Nanaha is all business, so Hyousuke isn’t able to get reacquainted.
Hyousuke is led to the ship by Tsubasa, who obviously dislikes him, and it doesn’t help when he wonders aloud if it’s ok for all the workers to be female. After the ship leaves port, Hyousuke is on the job and looking for the CIC room, but finds underwear hanging around instead. Tsubasa catches him looking and leads him to the right place, though she still hates him. Nanaha happens to arrive at the same time, and the two go in just as alarm bells start to go off. The ship comes under attack, but they’re able to shoot down all of the missiles. The crew is then puzzled when the enemy ships then disappear off their radar. Hyousuke is amazed watching the girls in action after Nanaha calls for battle stations and at Nanaha’s serious but beautiful face.

Summary:
In Soul Society, Commander Yamamoto assembles the remaining captains and tells them about the efforts being made to find Aizen and the Hougyoku. Ukitake and Kyouraku are talking later about Renji, and Kyouraku mentions that he heard a rumor about that. Meanwhile in the real world, the group is trying to figure out what happened. Ichigo had talked to Tatsuki about Inoue, but she had no idea who Inoue was. They decide to go investigate Inoue’s home again and enter through Ishida’s lock-picking skills. Inside, the find the two cups across from each other on the table from when Inoue was with her brother. Suddenly, Renji’s cell phone rings with a girl calling on the other end. This girl wants to play a game and promises to return Inoue if the guys win.
First, they are told to get to the park within three minutes. After running there, they find a ringing public phone. The girl then tells them to get to the supermarket in three minutes. From the phone there, they are told to go to Urahara’s shop. At Urahara’s shop, they get one last call telling them to show up at Inoue’s home that night at 8PM. With no choice, Ichigo (in shinigami form) and the rest show up at that time. From Inoue’s window, they see a light, so they rush up to investigate. Much to their surprise, Inoue has returned, though she has no memories of what happened this day, only the day before. While sitting around her home, they feel something hit the building. Violent winds kick up and Inoue suddenly starts to choke Sado. As it turns out, Inoue is actually a new face, Kurodo (Cloud?), in disguise. His partners are Nova and Ririn, the latter of which is the girl who’s been calling them. Ichigo and Renji’s attacks are ineffective in hitting their new foes, and so Sado is taken through the gate.

Summary:
The young girl introduces herself as Ilya - Illyasviel von Einzbern. Not wasting time, she orders Berserker to kill, but Saber runs forward to parry hit hit. Much to Ilya’s delight, the two start fighting, but Saber is mostly to be dodging Berserker’s blows. She makes her way over to Ilya, but Berserker smashes her into a pole. It becomes apparent that Saber is still recovering from Lancer’s earlier blow, but Rin doesn’t allow Shirou to try to stop his Servant. Instead, Rin herself shoots Berserker with magic, but it doesn’t faze him at all. Even though Saber tries to move away, Berserker’s next hit connects and inflicts a devastating blow. Saber’s eyes turn blood red, but she motions for Shirou not to come. He watches as bloodied Saber gets up with the support of her sword. Ilya brags about Berserker by saying that he’s Greece’s strongest hero - Hercules. Berserker raises his arm for another swing, but Shirou has seen enough. With the symbol on his hand resonating, Shirou pushes Saber out of the way and takes the blow. Everyone is completely taken aback by Shirou’s actions, and Ilya even retreats for the time being. She promises that she’ll kill Rin the next time they meet.
Shirou dreams about a time when he and his father Kiritsugu were talking. Kiritsugu had wanted to be an ally of justice when he was a child, but had eventually given up the idea. The young Shirou had proclaimed that he could do it in his father’s place.

Blood+ - 16

Summary:
Arriving in Vladivostok, Russia, the group meets a Red Shield agent named Elizabeth. Kai gets all flustered when she greets them with kisses to the cheek. They are headed for Yekaterinburg via the Trans-Siberian Railroad, and while getting on the train, Riku and Hagi help an elderly woman wearing a mysterious blue ring. The first leg of the ride is relatively uneventful except for Kai making a ruckus about room assignments. In the dining car some days later, Lewis shows off a box of candy he got from a pair of kids going to Paris who wanted to be introduced to Julia and Elizabeth. Riku spots the elderly lady he had helped earlier, and Hagi gives up his seat for her. She tells him that she’s going to Moscow to see her great-grandchildren. Across the aisle, Elizabeth tells the Red Shield members about her experience in Afghanistan where her entire force was annihilated by the Chiropterans. When Elizabeth gets up from the table and leaves, she is being watched by the elderly lady. That night, Elizabeth’s naked body - complete with a neck bite mark, is dumped off the train.
Saya is getting a blood transfusion when she asks Julia about her past and what happened in Vietnam 30 years ago. But Julia tells Saya that she has to remember for herself. Meanwhile, Hagi is teaching Riku to play the cello when both of them and Saya detect Chiropterans; it seems that the boys going to Paris were injected with something. Saya and Hagi quickly take up arms and start to fight. Hagi chases one of them on top of the train while the rest of the group runs for the rear. He goes for a lunge, but instead gets impaled by the Chiropteran’s feet. Fortunately, Saya is under him and pierces through the roof with her sword, killing that one. Lewis gets the stored armaments from the rear compartment and starts blasting the remaining one. They manage to shoot it until it falls off and gets crushed by the train. Or so they think until it grabs Riku’s leg and pulls him off. Saya cuts off the Chiropteran’s arm while Hagi leaps to grab Riku. Unfortunately, all three of them are no longer on the train. Kai wants to jump after them, but David holds him back. They hear Julia’s yell from the other side of the car, and turn around to see Elizabeth (who is now sporting the blue ring) jumping off. Lewis gets the train to stop and the rest of the group initiates a search. Somewhere in a field of snow, Saya lays unconscious.

Oh, the things you learn from anime: the group is headed to Yekaterinburg, Russia, which is a place famous for *drumrolls* its Cathedral on the Blood. That cathedral is built on the spot where the last Russian tsar, Nikolai II, and his family were executed by the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution. Just a bit of history trivia to go with your anime.
I hope they don’t plan on keeping everyone separated for a long time again. As amusing as Kai is for comic relief, I really don’t want them to do a repeat of the Vietnam arc. Yes, Kai is still trying to find his role and his strengths, but he’s pretty whiny while doing it. Riku, on the other hand, seems to be like the prodigy of the family as he even starts to learn to play Hagi’s cello. As for Saya, her fight (and Hagi’s) is quite impressive, and she’s really showing that she’s gotten the hang of controlling her powers, even though she doesn’t fully have her memories yet.
I’m a bit disdained that they introduced Elizabeth only to kill her off so quickly. Well kind of, since the person/thing that took on Elizabeth’s form is still around. I wonder if she’s going to be the big villain for this arc while the Chevaliers work in the background. Anyway, next episode is going to be about Hagi and Saya. Looks like Saya is going to be learning more about her past.

Angel Heart - 01

Summary:
Standing on top of a building, a shadowy figure remembers an assassination she carried out: one where she killed a man whose daughter came running, unaware that her father has been killed. The assassin can’t stand doing this anymore and jumps off the building to be free. Two days later, a heart transplant is stolen en route to a hospital. Another year passes, and somewhere in Taiwan, the same assassin lies in a coma, despite having received a heart transplant. The security guards watching over her body start talking about her and one of them tells the other about how assassins in their organization are trained to be killing machines. The girl they are guarding is the elite assassin Glass Heart. In her comatose state, Glass Heart is dreaming about all of the assassinations she’s done. Each time she killed someone, she felt that a part of her own self died. She remembers committing suicide, and wonders why she’s still alive. Another voice arrives to tell her that she must not die, that she must live. As a warm feeling surrounds her, she feels the embrace of a man.
Meanwhile, Saeba Ryo is hitting on girls at the pool when Nogami Saeko comes looking for him. She’s in the police force working on the stolen transplant case, but she tells Ryo that the case is all but closed now though still unsolved. Ryo, turning serious, says that he believes that Kaori, who was the donor of the heart and Ryo’s former fiancé, is still alive. Back in Glass Heart’s dream world, she finds and opens a door that leads to another woman: Kaori. Glass Heart starts to experience Kaori’s memories, including fond ones of Ryo and the memory of the night Kaori died saving a child from oncoming traffic. In the real world, the organization doctors have been ordered to let Glass Heart die if her condition worsens. Still dreaming, Glass Heart again thinks that she wants to die, but Kaori’s voice tells her again that she must live. After remembering Ryo embracing a dying Kaori that final night, Glass Heart decides that she wants to live because she doesn’t want to be separated from Ryo. And with that, the Glass Heart of the real world opens her eyes, awakening from the coma.

Angel Heart, for those of you who don’t know, continues the saga of City Hunter, a series from the late 80s/early 90s about a gun-for-hire named Saeba Ryo who had a partner named Makimura Kaori. That’s the same Ryo and Kaori of this series, except now Kaori has died (well, only kind of). If you’re a bit confused by the above summary, that’s normal. I tried my best to get the plot points, but there are a lot of things that get developed little by little. For now, it’s sufficient to know that Glass Heart is channeling Kaori’s mind and spirit from the transplanted heart, and that’s what’s keeping her alive and guiding her thoughts.
I am quite impressed by the first episode of Angel Heart. It follows the first two chapters of the manga extremely closely, and delivers each scene quite well. The art style, which is quite mature, may not be for everyone, but it also resembles the manga. The only difference is that they added the final scene with Ryo thinking about Kaori at the place where she died. I thought that scene was incredibly well done, with the music (especially that saxophone) setting the mood quite well. It almost felt like a movie at the end there. Speaking of music, there is no opening or ending song this episode

As they’re evacuating the civilians, one of MITHRIL’s stealthed choppers is shot out of the sky by a missile. Sousuke runs off to destroy the missile site, while Mao and Kurz defend the evacuation. Mao has to use her own ECMs to divert another set of missiles, but the evacuees are unhurt. After anhilating the missile site, Sousuke makes the decision to be left behind so that the civilians can be evacuated quickly. As night rolls around, Sousuke is surrounded by troops in the city. He exhausts all of his ammo, and even has to use his lambda drivers to deflect and escape some tank shells. He’s eventually ends up on a bridge, finding himself surrounded on both sides. Fortunately, Tessa on the Tuatha de Danaan surfaces just in time for Sousuke to jump on and get away. Their parting gifts are several missiles filled with explosives, blowing up both sides around the bridge.
On the de Danaan, Sousuke is doing homework when Tessa pops in. She comments that it must be very hard, but Sousuke shows that he has notes prepared by Chidori to help. Sousuke thanks Tessa for saving him before we switch scenes to a furious Chidori at school (the next day presumably). Sousuke walks in after being airdropped on top of the school. Of course, he forgot her notes back on the Tuatha de Danaan, so Chidori smacks him. In dock, Kalinin debriefs Tessa and Mardukas about the missiles that were used earlier against them.

I LOVE this OP. Best of the OPs so far, hands down. The sequence itself, I didn’t like quite as much. I liked the way it started out showing everyone, but at around the 50 second mark, the back and forth between Tessa and Chidori and then Leonard seemed just a bit jumpy, even if it was to the music. Just a minor gripe though, everything else was great. The OP really shows that we’re going for a very action oriented season (akin to the first season). ED song is nice and slow and the sequence shows Chidori and Sousuke walking along with various shots of the school and scenery.

FMP! is back and certainly with a bang! An action packed episode, with the fighting scenes absolutely breathtaking, especially when Sousuke activated the lambda drivers. Kyoto Animation sets the bar high yet again. We’ve got quite a bit in store for us this season, including several new villains. And the chemistry between Sousuke and Chidori hasn’t changed at all. All of the same seiyuus have reprised their roles, plus Mikuni Shimokawa is back to sing both OP and ED, so I couldn’t be happier.
Next episode should introduce us to several of the villains (including the twins and the old balding guy), but looks to be more about schoollife at Jindai High School.
