just because it is japanese, yes. the technique and color palette is also different from what is commonly used in western animation.

Animation style is quite different. Character style, story style, colors, animation, etc. Plus, the country of origin, i guess.

the Japanese called it Anime, while the western called it Cartoon. bsag MARVEL kitawag jud ug cartoons like the X-MEN series, Spiderman and etc.

correct anime comes from the root word animation.
manga is japanese series animation book.

Jap people love to shorten words. (ex: Konbini = Convenience store, HiguNaku = Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Pasokon = personal computer, BuriMyu = Bleach Musical). So my guess, they shortened the word animation and turned it into anime.. and before we know it, they now have created a unique style of animation, which is anime.

And yes, manga is comic book. Funny how a schoolmate argued that Manga is pronounced as Manhwa. I've watched anime my whole life and i have never heard it pronounced as such. But i was too timid to contradict him further. I wonder if he figured out the right pronunciation now (and Manhwa = Korean). xD
