For discussions sake, yes there are a lot of Aikido styles. But one thing that most Aikidoka's aren't aware of is that why and how did it happen? With in fact, history tells there is only one founder of of that "Discipline".
The way I see it, politics and individual differences. Sensie Ueshiba had have Aikidokas(japanese term for an Aikido student). Not all of them, the moment he had passed away. Share the same ideas as to its implementation, teaching techniques, real-life situation's effectivity and most often membership rules/regulations.
I'd like to share you a story on this particular situation, when my Sensie organized his own dojo. Whom he happens to be a student of Sensie Monching Gavellino, the highest ranking Aikidoist in the Philippines. I once asked him, honest question why aren't he not adopting his Sensie's dojo name? Then he'd told me, because if I'll do that, nobody would enroll in my dojo. Due to high tuition fee cost. Hence, it is business in it's modest way. It's sort of a franchise fee, if you will open a provincial outlet of Jollibee. It has a price to pay, franchise pay. But my Sensie once told me, his Senseis teachers are Japanese and had even get a taste of their teaching methods. Which he said superb and put strict emphasis on "ki".
Many had claimed that his Aikido is better than yours or from them, or sophistaicated than yours, because they had International affiliations and had recognition/ certificates from with no less than Japanese senseis. Others also suggest that "ki", development is the best. While some focus only on it's technical aspect and practical application. No matter how you are going, to percieve my beloved "Discipline" or whatever perception some Aikidokas may have. Aikikai, Iwama, Tenshin, Combat, or whatever style they're all Aikido, in one way or another. Each founders of these styles, had always adhere to the same "Aikido Creed", I suppose.
I personally feel and think that Aikido. In it's broadest sense can not just be categorically, represented by styles. As for my part, it took me two years to understand the rationale, behind the "ki", itself. Not to mention the "Ai" and the "Do". And even unitl now, I am still learning. "Aikido", from the way I see it, through personal knowledge and research, is indeed vastly broad "Discipline". In one single technique, there are at least 10 variations. I even find it not easy, to perfect those 10 variations, in terms of accuracy and application of basic physics. I do believe in what "Sensei Steven Seagal", says that there is only one Aikido, and that is the Aikido which is founded by Sensei Ueshiba.

Default What's the Most Dangerous Martial Arts?

very true indeed Persian king, aikido is aikido.
    Politics plays a major reason.
aside different students have learned different aikido from Ueshiba sensei. During the youth of Ueshiba sensei, it was particularly very strong waza like more on Daito Ryu type, as he learned from Takeda sensei. people like Gozo Shioda adapted the rather stronger method of aikido(by means stronger i dont mean more superior). During the early days Morihei sensei taught in a dojo called Jigoku (hell) dojo.-qouted from a book. where there were a lot of injuries because of the practice.
he went to china-manchuria as missionary in a sense to create some sort of a utopia, as he was heavily influenced by the Omoto kyu sect of religious order. in China he was captured by the Chinese govt and was to face firing squad, he was saved through the intervention of the Japanese govt.
later after WW2 the out look of Ueshiba sensei changed, from a more warlike form of martial arts similar to Daito ryu which was used for centuries in the battle fields of Japan to a far more gentler form. Some students of Ueshiba sensei of post ww2 learned shall i say a little different method of Aikido (gentler type).

but again aikido is aikido. which is superior? be my guest choose.

But the problem occurs when there is greed for money.
then people will say- my martial arts is better than yours, to gain more students, more student more money. or fame and recognition. some people strive to be known. popularity at the moment. funny thing is we might be very popular today, but how about a hundred years from now? we loose precious moment by being emmersed by our greedy desires that leads to unhappy life. there are always person greater and lesser than ourselves.

as for learning its a never ending procees, until death we can learn.
