when almost every country is using jet-powered aircraft, we are still using propeller-driven planes

during the 1960's, our military was one of the strongest in east asia.. pero karon? even a small african country can invade us easily, lol

it's obvious that none of you here know why the PAF are sticking to those SF260 and bronco for ISO, COIN war needed turbo prop plane even the US knows that too, that's why they are using prop driven plane if not UAV for COIN in ayrak and stan....

FYI: PAF's turn to for modernization will start on 2010, wala pa ila turn for the modernization, timawa.net <- research mo diri para ma enlighten mo sa true and real situation sa PAF and AFP... who knows maka storya nimo tong taga DND nga member nga involved on all modernization transaction...

what's the used of having an MRF (just what most people here want...) if we could not maintain it because the cost of ownership is higher..... you just don't acquire the hardware, the real cost is after acquisition... we can really afford to buy a couple of F16 (forget what Block), the problem is the cost of ownership...

the problem AFP modernization is on the congress and senate.... theyr'e the one approving the budget...

there are several level the PAF need to attend prioritize and ISO is first on the list that's why we still operated prop driven plane for COIN

if we are frustrated on our PAF's state how much more the PAF.... they have the task to defend the skies but congress and senate clip their wings...

it's not the PAF who buys the hardware but DND, PAF only gives the specification.... so go bark on DND....

The plane was bought for the token sum of $100 perhaps to circumvent complex rules about donation of military hardware to a foreign government, which the transaction practically was. It doesn't mean the aircraft was worth $100. The PAF also acquired another F-5 from Taiwan in exchange for a non-flyable P-51 Mustang that was on static display in one of the air bases.

The Balikatan crash in 2002 was the one that convinced the air force to retire the aircraft. It was caused by structural failure, not pilot error. During the overhead break in the landing pattern at Clark, the horizontal stabilizer separated and the plane dove straight to the ground, headed for a public school. The pilot, Capt. Policarpio did not eject, perhaps attempting all the while to keep the wayward plane from crashing into the school buildings.

I notice a lot of people here say aircraft donated by other countries are junk. Sure they're old inventory but when they enter service with the PAF they are reconditioned to like-new condition. However, budget constraints usually mean the air force is unable to maintain them in flying status for long.

A lot of guys don't realize the average age of a lot of USAF aircraft is over 30 years old. Many of the KC-135s, B-52s and C-130s on the inventory are a lot older than the pilots flying them. Unlike us however, the United States has the ability and resources to maintain those aging aircraft.

The culprit here is BUDGET ... if the earmarked money is only spent well for our AFP, they would have been modernized right now ... but we know that corruption is prevalent also among men in uniform ... so what can we expect?
