hehehe. i am one of the parents who give their kids long names. my kids have three names both with initials JRA but their nicknames are just three letters. hahahaha.

can we call these parents irresponsible? hahaha
They did not care for the welfare of their child di ba?

Ang mahitabo ra ba ani kay masipyat ang spelling or i drop ang other name...pag abut sa mga legal documents..problema na! A person named Patricia Anne is not the same as Patricia Anne Therese...hehehe
Patricia Anne is not the same as Patricia Ann.

I disagree with your claims that it is a case of irresponsible parenthood. Because my children have three names and they use the same. In school, they are called by their nicknames and their fullnames are just for documentary purposes.

I also vehemently disagree with your statement "They did not care for the welfare of their child"...because i do... Caring for the welfare of the children is not limited to giving names...there are so many aspects.. what's the use of having a one-name child or two-name child when you could not provide for them their basic needs? The love and affection of a parent to their children?

As long as you use your three full names on all legal documents, it won't matter. It just the way of instilling into your children values and sense of responsibility... Being a responsible parent entails lots of energy, affection and values. It doesn't limit to giving names...

yes its true, caring for the welfare of the children is not limited to giving names. but for me giving three names is kinda redundant.. and in contrast, basic needs love and affection of a parent to their children has nothing to do with giving names.. i may ask you whats the use of having a three names? being unique?

Do you have three names also?

I think this (somewhat) ritual dates back to the spanish era.

wala pa ko baby, but then ok na ko 1 or 2 names. as long as unique na ang name mismo.
Hehehe, that's why my wife and I named our daughter Aeris Jasmine para unique ang name. I supposedly give her one name only pero akong wife is persistent to have our baby two names. Anyway, we can call her AJ as her nickname para shortcut, hehehehe
