Default PHILIPPINE MOTTO! POOR GETS POORER, RICH GETS RICHER!

we should also consider the fact that certain chinese-filipinos play by these stereotypes to get an edge. one would rather trust a chinese-filipino rather than a pure blooded pinoy when talking about whose business venture he/she is suppose to invest into. the "interactive" realtionship suggests that the effect can also come from the other way around. this, in itself is an example of an unequal playing field.

as neo-neanderthal had suggested, we only look at what is today. we fail to realize that certain things could be twisted to benefit certain people. in the end, what is supposed to be a story about their notorious rise to fame and glory, has become their noble biography to success.

and, i have to mention this again, the chinese version of pakikisama; giving the politicians what they want, for them to incur certain favors... the Lopezes, the Tans, the Cojuancos of this world are prime examples. and please do not tell me that all of it was good old plain hardwork.

if being poor is a sin, then i do not know if these people will go to heaven because of their material wealth, or will burn in eternal damnation because of the untold notorious and dastradly secrets they have of how they amassed with such wealth.

Default PHILIPPINE MOTTO! POOR GETS POORER, RICH GETS RICHER!

as an example: all of my Clan was very poor... I have experienced living in the slumps / "squatters area"... we had to live in a house of my grandpas "kumpare" in Leyte for 1 year... we had soy sauce and rice for meals... sometimes we ate nothing but air... I had a miserable childhood...

but, thru hard work and dedication most of my clan are now in the upper level of society... yes we have chinese blood but never had any connections (as some of you have implied that because you are chinese you are well connected)... our family members had to migrate to different parts of the country trying to find that pot of gold that will alleviate our status... FYI, that never came in a box with nice ribbons from the government... that pot of gold came from thousands if not millions of liters of sweat and unrelenting perseverance...

to sum it up, our clan was very poor but now we are generally living in a more convenient lifestyle... thanks to the "personal" sacrifices that were made by our elders and not the promises made by our government... if people keep waiting for those promises, they will never prosper... if they start working for it on their own, in time they will have it... bottom line is, most poor people make themselves poorer... and the only way to to get themselves out of the "rat race" is to, like what katrina have previously stated, learn how to make money work for them and not have themselves work for money...

that's great, master Beor. unfortunately such outstanding example, however apt, is not necessarily what is being followed.

indeed such positive outlook and enduring hard work as a factor cannot be contested, and the world would be a very nice place if such ideals are what the people would follow... yet, undeniably, the shady dealings of some of our more prosperous cohorts are all too real.

as i have said before, generalizations are very dangerous. stereotypes can be misleading. many people will not fit with how we see them as such... to ignore that is to ignore reality, and to ignore reality makes a theory, or an analysis for that matter, useless.

My point exactly! Beor, rose up from misery because he rose to the challenge & chose not to remain poor. Unlike most people, who accept their fate of misery until they die & blame other people or circumstance like the government & the rich, among others for living in poverty.

This discussion was never about chekwa & pinoy. That was merely an example to stress my point but in reality it doesn't necessarily apply and follow that each and every filipino is lazy and each and every chinese is not. I'm just being objective, truthful and factual. If you don't agree that Chinese are generally more hardworking than Filipinos I just don't know anymore...Catch my drift? WHAT'S YOUR POINT? Don't mangle the discussion your talking points are so vague.

@gareb: To end the confusion & see your answer in black & white, Do you agree that ratiowise & as a people more Filipinos are lazier compared to Chinese? Just YES or NO.

& BTW, whoever said that the world is fair? As long as a person belongs to a group of people or individuals such as a country, culture or nationality and is still living in this world, then you will always be stereotyped, positively or negatively which ever applies. That's just how it is ever since the human race began & you can't change that. It's the rule of the cosmos & if you will disagree or contest it, it will be like getting people to beleive that the sky is red.

As long as we are humans and we are living on this earth, malice & prejudice among others is always imminent. You can never remove that, that's what makes us so. Otherwise, we are no longer humans but gods.

We people would always like to look at the world in living color. Which is a very, very good thing. But whatever we do & how hard we try, what happens to our lives will always only be black & white & somtimes grey in between & that's the fact of life.

that's the problem with people... instead of focusing their attention to find ways that will benefit their welfare, they look at "the shady dealings of some of our more prosperous cohorts"... this world is not perfect and will never be... don't look after the world, look after yourself... people's way of thinking should not clouded by propaganda and ideals that will only make the plight of others more miserable...

    gareb:
well, there are lots of hard things in this world.
    to quote kahlil gibran,
Work is a curse, and labour a misfortune.
    but then..
he also said that to love work is to love life.
err.. and he ALSO said that if you dont like work, and you couldnt do work properly, just dont work at all.
i dont exactly agree with everything that he said,
but then what he is implying is quite true.

i think... LOTS of people hate working.
hehehe... so they just followed what he said.
