It's ok to read the bible provided that you read it with an open mind and not taking it literally word for word. The bible is not the only source of spiritual truth and wisdom. It is just part of the whole TRUTH.

I know Franz Bardon was an authentic magician and occultist. His books are great!

J. Krishnamurti's book "At The Feet of The Master" was his first book and it was quite profound!

Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet was his most famous book. He was a great American Lebanese Poet, artist and writer if I was not mistaken.

Thomas A. Kempis was very famous in his book "The Imitation of Christ" that many bacame saints as a result of reading and practicing his book.

I remember the Dark Night of The Soul written by St. John of The Cross is one of the best Catholic books of all time. It is very enlightening when the soul experiences such doubt and confusion about the existence of God for it emerges with fresh love and insight in the end just what happened to Mother Theresa. The Dark Night of The Soul as St. John of the Cross narrated, is when the Lover finally finds the Beloved. It is seeking with so much passion and friendship with God.

Yes the Alchemist is such a great and wonderful book! It speaks about our longings and deepest dreams as Khalil Gibran said "The dearest thing in our lives is the realization of our dreams and the most important thing is the reaping of the fruits of our talents. "
