If evil refers to Satan as the devil, God did not create a devil but an angel who had chosen to be evil - that's what we call free will.

If evil refers to what the world is experiencing now - too much violence, lust, greed, pestilence, global warming, and environmental problems that bring us big typhoons, drought, etc. - these are not created by God but by man's own volition and by his abusive use of nature. By his free will, man is capable of evil and whether he choose to do or not do depends on himself.

But it could be argued that God created evil so we would know what is evil and what is good. But the decision to do evil depends on us. FREE WILL again. Thus, we cannot question the wisdom of God in creating evil because his purpose was not to do us harm but to mold us into good beings. How would we know what is right, when we dont know what is wrong? But the fact that God may have created evil does not not if itself make him evil also.
