    Tamblot,

    Maayong adlaw

Naa ko dugang pangutana kabahin sa VPN, I would like to use the software-base VPN kay di ko ka-afford sa hardware-base (assuming). Mao ni ang naa nako: [MSwin2k3 servers each site, Public IPs both sites with High-Speed DSL]. Naa pa ba'y kulang ani? Unsa'y imong ika-suggest?

    Salamat.

let both MSWin2k3 create the VPN tunnel. Once these two servers have made a tunnel, you now have a site-to-site VPN connection. Just make sure that these servers are not your internet gateway. Im not sure if your local machines can still access the internet once the server gateway has the VPN tunnel.

Just note that once the two Win2k3 servers have created the tunnel, all traffic pass through this tunnel.

VPN is commonly used by telecommuters to access corporate networks. In layman terms, VPN is access your network/computer at home or office even if you are away securely via internet

@baboy: your central site should always be online so you can initiate VPN to it.

to add what tambot has explained, here's a snip from a book:
    .......
A virtual private network is defined as network connectivity deployed on a shared infrastructure with policies and security implemented much like a private network.
    .......

Shared infrastructure should mean the internet. Actually, VPN is a cryptographic service which supports user authentication, data integrity and encryption.

btw, windows 2000 & XP supports only PPTP(Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) & L2TP/IPSec (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocols) Protocols. The latter provides more security.
