Default Killer croc should be taken alive

Killer croc should be taken alive: Philippines mayor

Residents of a town near marshes in the southern Philippines where a schoolgirl was killed by a huge crocodile have been asked not to harm the reptile, the mayor said Saturday.
Bunawan mayor Gilbert Elorde said he wants the crocodile caught rather than killed, adding that several crocodile farms were interested in trapping it.
All wildlife in the Agusan marsh including crocodiles are protected by law and could not be hunted without a permit, he told reporters.
The crocodile, described by witnesses as being about 30 feet (nine metres) long, killed a schoolgirl on March 9 after attacking the boat she was in.
The attack has panicked residents, forcing some 100 people who live in floating houses on the marsh, to flee the area.
Local tribal leader Bae Ligaya Daga-as, 57, said the marsh crocodiles have recently become more aggressive.
"When I was a kid accompanying my parents, the crocodiles then were even afraid of the mere sound of human voices and the engines of motorboats. Now they are not afraid," she said.
The Agusan Marsh on Mindanao island is one of the country's largest, covering 113,000 hectares (279,200 acres). It is a sanctuary for protected species, including soft-shell turtles and freshwater crocodiles.

well relatively, some people bloat out news to make it even more interesting, A 30 ft long croc would be by far the largest living croc man will ever see. Yes, i suppose this is an adult croc and may even be quite old being able to capsize a regular boat considering, juvies aint that aggressive. Yet i am quite hesitant to believe that it would reach 30 feet, a croc that reaches 20 will already draw in attention from halfway around the globe.

A lot of conservation parks will take in a big croc.......it is one heck of a specimen. Davao crocodile park i think will likely be very happy to take it in...after all it is a very good exhibit.

A lot of problem crocs have been dealt with accordingly with out resorting to the death of the croc. One instance is "Surigao" a problem croc of Surigao and was reported to have taken the lives of 12 fisherfolks. The late senator Ramon Mitra took on the effort of getting the croc caught and brought it in the crocodile farm in palawan. the croc was measured to be 15 ft in length. Another instance was recorded in the Fly river of Papua New Guinea 30 yrs ago. A similar sized croc was captured after devouring locals. This croc was captured by George Craig.....a crocodile hunter by heart. He then brought the animal to St. Augustines Alligator Farm in Florida and was named "GOMEK". The largest croc in captivity. After 30 years in captivity though the large croc that fascinated millions died in 1997.

Moadto ra ba ko sa Agusan Marsh karon summer by May 14 - 20. I was there before. Nice kaayo ang lugar and filled with thrill kay magsakay ka sa baroto nga ang lutaw bali ra ug one inch from water level to the rim of the boat. Ang tubig kay pwerting lubuga year long. Dili ka kahibalo mabaw ba or lawom ba ang place. Nice to see a lot of iguanas at the top of half submerged branches and logs. As for the crocodile there, I hope they will not kill that.
