grabe sad @emailroy.... seriously IMO, its still depends to the person because corruption really is not only a problem that only us are experiencing, its the world over actually. In the US, corruption is very rampant, even americans don't like it but because their standards of living is quite high compared to us, they seldom don't care it anymore because for them, they'd better concentrate their lives trying to make a living and earning for the family instead of lurking with anomalous politicians. What's also good is that US institutions are strong and americans are confident that these institutions will do their duties truthfully and fairly unlike here that filipinos do not trust our institutions. i guess, to fight corruption, the philippines should make government institutions strong and not be overwhelmed by powerful politicians so that we can have justice in our land. In that way, the people will gain trust and confidence that our institutions deeply needs.

Default Brown Prose is a LIAR

    - BrownProse is a LIAR, A HUGE HUGE Liar. He said he posed "TONS OF DATA". We all know that's a huge lie. There is no way you can do that on radio. The most BrownProse could have had was 2 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!

    - I listened to entire show bec. it is posted in the web (hyperwage.podomatic) and there is NO PERSON there with TONS OF DATA.

    - BrownProse identify yourself from the MP3 podcast. Which one were you in the podcast?

    - Calling your data as TONS Of DATA doesnt mean you really have tons of data. LIARS call the small data "TONs of data" in a vain attempt to feel important in a debate.

    - BrownProse is NOT An economist. ANd he did not study this Hyperwage issue as deeply as the author did (The author has well-research data in the book). BrownProse credibility is ZERO on this topic.

    - BrownProse attempts to discredit the author by asking if the author has heard of the BIG MAC Index. This shows the ignorance of BrownProse and shows another LIE when he claims he had read the Hyperwage Book. If you read the book you will find out that Bentulan has called the Big Mac Index as inadequate and he invented his own Big Mac Index showing the Labor-Hours or MIinutes to buy a big Mac as a measure of how poorly paid we are.

    - BrownProse therefore has not read the Book and pretends to discredited it.

    - BrownProse attempts to discredit Hyperwage by small issues. Hyperwage as I have read it has to be taken as a whole, including the social benefits and the economic benefits.

    - All points by the author are well-thought out and well-researched. BrownProse maybe, isnt even an honor graduate in his own field of education, and he pretends to discredit hyperwage whose topic is economics?

    - BrownProse says Economic Multiplier is based on govt-spending. This is FALSE. The economic multiplier is a concept separate from govt spending. Consumper purchasing power gives consumer spending and that spending is subjuect to the Economic Multiplier.

    - This shows BrownProse pretends to discredit the multiplier when HE DOEST even know about it at all. That is arrogance intellectualy.

    - If BrownProse only read the Hyperwage Book he will LEARN economics and know that Keynes did not invent the economic multiplier (Khan actually did) and it is written in the book..

    - Hyperwage Theory cites the Card-Krueger study, which disproves that increasing wages results in runaway inflation BUT BrownProse did not read the book and so he arrogantly discredits Hyperwage using his embarrassing ignorance.

    - All other points of BrownProse are speculations without logical self consistency "You need to make prices lower?" What kind of stupid economic argument is that? The oil is world market price, the computer is world market prices, the monitor, the flour, the sugar, the copper, the airplane, and everthing that is part of the 42% of the Phils GDP that is imported. Does BrownProse want to lower that on his own? Stupid argument.

    - As I read from the Hyperwage book, we are all paying for "world market" prices of our cellphones, power plants eqmpt, appliances, steel and everyhing needed to run a business... but you are not willing to pay the "world market price" of LABOR? That's stupid.

    - And by the way, has anybody of us actually given a thought to our domestic helpers and to how to make Phils a First World country.. or a you okay with potholes in the street, teens murdered for their cellphones, or no lights in our barangay streets? Dont you realize that with Hyperwage, more income, more taxes, more Vat, more money for lights in the streets and CRs in public schools?

Dont BS a theory that you do not understand. The best you can do is try to find ways to make it acceptable. If theres a will theres a way.

The best we can do for now is to make the people and the govt realize that "increasing wages shoudl be desired, not avoided".

Wage increases are tax deductible so companies can actually afford it. And more wages means more income more purchasing power more demand more sales more production more employment..

As for the businesses, all the wage increases (for the min. wage workers) will be spent by these workers in 15 to 30 days.. so before the companies can complain, the money is back to them.......... in less than a month.. so whats the problem there?

Read the book and learn to apply its concepts to your everyday economic experience... many companies in the world are now folding down not bec of high salaries but because of "low consumer demand" Read CNN articles of the justification of the companies ..

I presented tons of data (both local and foreign) that even small wage adjustments have inflationary effects, all he could say was "No, that's wrong. He said that if hyperwage was inflationary, "Singapore would have high levels of inflation" in which the latter comment is an apparent omission of the historical facts behind Singapore's wages. Never did Singapore, at one time in their history, deliberately or consciously determined wage prices let alone adopted a hyperwage policy that was the basis of, what is now, Singapore's current wages.

I also remember how he debunked views from the Central Bank, and some people from the academe who were opposed to his theory of being "wrong and traditionalists." Wapa gani ma probahan ang iyang theory diretso na ug ingon "sayop or traditionalist." Did he have to say necessarily those words when all he could have done was to simply refute the data vis-a-vis his so-called theory?

I'm not an economist but I know what's good economics or not. I would like to compare hyperwage as a circuit -- taking the long, unsensical route towards the finish line ( or what he calls "high purchasing power") which is inflationary and economically perilous solution.

You don't need to increase wages unreasonably high to improve an ordinary man's purchasing power. You only need to make prices reasonably low in order to empower marginal wage earners to buy more with less. This can be achieved by investing on cost-reducing technologies or better yet improve supply chains.

The author is belaboring a very simple equation to a complex equation. What's worse, he arrived at the wrong equation because he started with the wrong givens -- that's why I said his theory is not at all a theory but mere suppositions or gut feelings. Unfortunately, no economic policy can be legislated or adopted out of a gut feeling or unfounded suppositions.

i agree 100%... this is what Bentulan calls the non-economic aspect or social aspect of Hyperwage. This is is a natural consequence of the increase in wages.

If companies cannot be productive when hyperwage is implemented, then close the business. Somebody else will come in fill in the gap.

There are small companies (newspaper stalls, fish vendors) in hyperwage countries so whats your problem.

If a company cannot affor hyperwage, let it close down, somebody else will become a fish vendor..

hyperwag is NOT a theory based on nothing.. Hyperwage is IMPLEmentd in First world countries... thats why your relatives are in the US and abroad.. bec of HIGH HIGH HIGH wages.....................

Of course. I may agree with wage adjustments but not hyperwage. And just because a company can afford a raise, it is not a ground to hyperwage everything. It is in fact incorrect to assume that all that have workers can afford an increase. Imagine hyperwaging a sari sari store in a wet market like Carbon which usually has one kargador and one tindera...do you think it can afford a hyperwage? Of course not.

And even if it is forced to, and assuming for the sake of discussion that a sari sari store can afford to make such a huge raise, it will also be forced to raise prices of his isda, utanon and etc. so the moment your worker gets his "hyper-raise", he still has to pay more for the isda and utanon eventually making hyperwage very meaningless and pointless. And what about those that don't have jobs at all?
