Default WIFI Point to Point connection

My School is about 15Km away from the nearst available broadband connection. We are planning to install a point to point transmission of internet signal wirelessly. I have a 15db WIFI outdoor antenna. What kind of router do i need. Do i need an access point? an amplifier/booster? Anybody who can draw a diagram/plan for me and what kind of equipments we need.

    Thanks guys.

What time of antenna do you have? Omni... Yagi... Parabolic...
You also need a specific pigtail, depending on what radio/wi-fi card you are using...
I would also suggest an LMR cable to minimize the signal loss...
You can do choose to set-up an AP.. or use 802.11b's iBSS (ad-hoc) mode
You also need a clear line of sight to each location...

check out this site for calcukations you need to do...

This is what I'm buying: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-4-GHz-24dBi-ga...QQcmdZViewItem as an antenna then http://cgi.ebay.com/Senao-NL-2611-CB...QQcmdZViewItem.

DO i need 2 of this to have a point to point WIFI or any modifications you can give.

    Thanks

it seems you need a wireless bridging for this. 15km is quite a distance for network connectivity via wireless. The antenna that you wish to purchase in ebay can actually be bought here locally. Please note that the grid parabolic dish that you mention is for WLAN (wireless local area network). Antenna is just but a side dish of the main meal. You need either a high-power wireless equipment or a signal amplifier for this thing to work.

Network link at 15 km via wireless is possible. The question is, how much are you willing to invest.

Tambalot... 15km with a parabolic even without an amplifier is okay Parabloic antennas are the most directional, compared to yagis and omins (the least directional).....
World record for a ptp is set at 124.9 miles un amplified.. meaning zero booster..zilch nada (http://www.wifiworldrecord.com/) . What you really need is a clear line of sight between the two points. Even 2 wifi cards that support iBss mode would work in a point to point connection... (most wifi carlready strong enough) The set u were buying certainly would work It even has a pigtail packaged already.. I think..
Although on a side note.. the maximum you would get 54mbps 11mb as a nominal connection and 1mb as the bad.

But i suggest you ger LMr Cabling as one major cause of signal loss is thru the wiring from the AP to the Antenna. An you want to get your AP as close to the antenna as possible as the long the cable from the ant to the AP, the higher the loss..

Actually, you dont need that much an investment to make a wireless link.. What's really need is persistence and some manual work and a clear line of sight.....

    for some equipment chek out:

bai weve had a set up of 5km in my experience and the connection is good. The first thing to consider in a wireless point to point transmission is the line of sight the environment and the interferences. You need to have a greater output power of your equipment to make sure link is reliable. To be able to do this you must secure a wireless booster. The one am looking to right now is the edimax sb2200bg which can amplify signal up to 500miliwatts. The antenna that youll most likely to use would be a parabolic or any directional antenna.

@Anton: please note that this is not just with the antenna that creates a good link. There are still other factors to consider such as transmit power. wifi cards alone cant make it at 15kms. the world record that you are saying is the metropolitan WLAN i suppose.

@marsman: whats the operating freq of that amplifier, 5GHz or 2.4GHz. I've also designed and installed one using 250mW and 500mW amplifiers at 9kms carrying voice, video and data.

@marsman: we use SMC for the amplifier.

Im not saying its only the antenna, but the antenna is a major contributor... it increases the db output and gain...
not metroploitan WLAN...check the link (http://www.wifiworldrecord.com/2005writeup.html)...
although the PCMCIA card they were using produces 300mW (http://wlanparts.com/product/XI-325HPPLUS)

and i think they got it from thesame shop melg921 is getting his equipment from, although the Senao NL-2 (23dBM) produces only 200mW

So for his setup, those things is planning to get would work
