You see the term filmfest connotes art. Quality Movies. What comes to my mind is the Cannes and the Sundance.

But in the MMFF you have movies like exodus, enteng kabisote, lastikman. So funny! I guess the real intention of the MMFF is to milk money from moviegoers during Christmastime. I suggest that they will rename it as Metro Manila Film Extravaganza.

actually in my mind, it's okay to call it as it is, like a spade is simply a spade-- the Manila FilmFest is a celebration of films, a feast of reels therefore simply a festival...

the problem really is not the name or the title of the event but how the festival itself is used... true, at the most part it is used to as an advertising tool to entice audiences to theaters, to save a flagging industry... on the other hand, it measures how local filmmakers have to do their best in producing good-quality films, in the hopes to garner the, and I use the term here loosely, prestige.

it's actually sad because moviemakers hold their "obra's" till MMFF. that way the rest og the year, you have mediocre movies. mediocre na ang content, samot na ang budget.

pero at least nalang, they're really putting money into their movies na. i don't think that the 70 million cost of the revilla movie can be recovered, IMO. i mean it's a big gamble even for them to produce such a costly film.

but sa trailers bah, na common naman ang mga big battle scenes noh? kana bitawng mag hinamagay ang mga frontliners, i sometimes think na luoya pud kung ma-frontline ko oi. bukol ray muoatay nimo.

The line up this year does nto impress me. Garapalan na that the intent was really to rake in profits.

Bong Revillla said it is intended to save a fledgling movie industry. I dont think making these kind of movies could do the trick, the Hollywood movies can do better wth better storylines.

If they are seruious about rescuing the movie industry then it should give exposure to independent films. Sadly, all indie entries were turned down. It sends a wrong message.
