I am not so sure if it is truly the Church which can deliver thousands of believers to Heaven. I am one of those who believe Salvation by Grace through Faith in Him and who follow the 10 Commandments by Heart.
The Pre-requisites of Salvation
REPENTANCE
The first one. In Romans 3:10 and Romans 6:23 No one is righteous before God and that sin causes death.
We need God's forgiveness. We need to confess our sins. I JOhn 1:9. We need to repent for our sins.
He is a Holy God, ergo no sin is permitted to Heaven no matter how microscopic it is.
FAITH
The acceptance of the gift of life through Christ Jesus.
Imagine a gift given to you...Is it free? Do you have to work for that gift to gain it? How will you have it?
Salvation is a a gift given by God and the way to accept it is by believing that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. John 14:6
John 3:16 and 17 In Jesus Christ and through HIM there is life and there is no condemnation, not counting His immeasurable for us.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith and not by works lest anyone should boast.
Read Titus 3:5
ACCEPTANCE
To claim this gift is to have genuine faith in Christ as the LORD and Saviour of one's life. That His death on the cross as the atonement for our sins saves us from sin and its wage which is eternal death!
Ephesians 2:8-9
ASSURANCE
The effect of the saving faith (it is so because it leads you to the focal point, the main DELIVERER, the object of faith who is Jesus Christ) makes you God's son.
Read John 1:12
Further as God's own children no one can snatch us from His hands. John 10:29
More importantly, we are sealed by His Spirit in Ephesians 1:13
Faith and Deeds (Good deeds)
In the gospel of James Faith w/o works is dead. True!
However, let us consider and remember that His gospel is in concurrence and in agreement to the gospel of his co-apostle-Paul!
James talked about the saving faith that leads to Christ!
James refer to the FAITH that saves that needs to be validated as a result of being saved to one's life.
The validity of a redeemed soul/person is to live salvation by which such person has been dead to sin and alive in Christ, and not disprove that faith alone can't save.
James concretized that GOOD deeds is the result of SALVATION, of being saved from sin. GOD is Holy and is compassionate, will HE expect His children living in the life of a sinner? NO.
Deeds here validates a truly redeemed person. How can a pardoned person proves that he has been freed and he has changed if he still lives an ungodly, unpardoned life? Can he testify that he was truly pardoned and has changed if he continues to live his past life?>
That's the whole point of James in his gospel.
Deeds his says in verse 20 that faith without works is useless... and that's true! How can you say that you have been saved by Christ if you can't attest it in your life and the way you live? See DEEDS are the result of salvation!
Let me paraphare verse 20....Works without faith is dead. True.
Now let me expound its logic. Faith alone can stand by itself, works can't. In John the baptist's preaching: REPENT AND BELIEVE! He does not say anything about deeds.
IF deeds can save;
Read Galatians 2:21 "I am not one of those who treats the grace of God as meaningless. For if we could be saved by keeping the law, then there was no need for Christ to die."
In other translations:
Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness [come] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
You nullify God's death if you can save yourself with your works.
James clearly states that faith without works doesn't save. PERIOD.Originally Posted by ichor_82283
Works are required. You can twist the words all you like, but this doesn't change what James says. Faith ALONE does not save. All other personal interpretations that say otherwise are clearly unscriptural. That's the bottom line. Note verse 24:
"See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone."
This is just simply saying Faith cannot move mountains alone... right?Originally Posted by mannyamador
I don't think that's what it says in verse 24, or in the rest of the passage:Originally Posted by Megiddo

It says faith alone does not save.
Whatever it is, ONLY GOD knows your fate brother.
I agree... Although, I don't really consider myself a Devote Catholic right now... More like a Non-practicing one... you know what I mean?Originally Posted by Sovabon

Â* Â* 19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
"...Show me your deeds and I will show you my faith by what I do."
---Clearly shows that works or good deeds is the result of being saved through FAITH.
In verse 19...It implies and clearly tells us that it is not an ordinary FAITH. READ IT, even the demon or satan himself has faith and knows that there is GOD and so do you. The difference is they FEAR God! They shudder at HIM!
24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
----In here, verse 24 it clearly says that works as A RESULT OF SALVATION VALIDATES the person in what he DOES after BEING SAVED!
where can you ever quote that faith alone cannot save in verbatim....
MY quotes from the bible against works that states that it can't save!
Ephesians 2:
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Titus 3:
3At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,
5he saved us, not because of RIGHTEOUS THINGS we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
6whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become HEIRS having the hope of ETERNAL LIFE. 8This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
BROTHER refute this:
Galatians 2:
20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
---the very reason why we can sustain eveyday life even if sin is just round the corner...
IT is no longer you who lives, but CHRIST who's living in you. This can only happen if you have accepted HIm in your life as personal Lord and Saviour.
21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"[d]
I reiterate:
For if riegteousness could be gained through the law, CHRIST DIED FOR NOTHING.
If you yourself can save yourself, CHRIST'S DEAth had been nullified in you and for all mankind!
You, me, and everbody else can't rescue one's self by self righteousness...
It's a fact!
May you understand GOD's death, HIS sacrifice of His own dear and only SON.
God bless you.
