Default Anybody using intel quad core Xeon processors?

For the same application function, How fast compared to dual core 2?
The cost for the whole computer setup is more than double. Can the savings justify the initial investment?

    they are the same.

X3220 are also known as Q6600
X3230 are also known as Q6700

    Q6600
    Intel® Core?2 Quad Processor Q6600 - SLACR
    Xeon
    Intel® Xeon® Processor X3220 - SLACT

    the difference?
    1. they have diffent thermal specification
    2. different voltage range
    3. diffent thermal design power
    4. xeon may need a compatible motherboard.
    5. some xeons have socket 771. desktop are 775.

xeon are designed for servers - multiple processing.

off topic: i think xeon is better at running gtaIV. ^_^
still, xeon are for servers. regular quads are for desktops.

    karun pa ko kita.
compared sa corei7? dual xeon quadcore (para 8cores)
quadcore (Hyper threading - 8 logical cores) vs 8 pure cores.

    overkill kaayu.

    AFAIK,

X3220 is LG775, it is incapable of operating under a multi-CPU environment.. you need LG771 processors for those. Tyan has never released any octa-socket capable motherboard for both LG775 and LG771.

It was in TechEd Malaysia last 2007, basin engineering sample to not for consumer use. They were demonstrating SQL Server 2005.

If you're planning to go for a single proc setup, i suggest you go with core i7
they're way on top on core per core output, here you go: PassMark Intel vs AMD CPU Benchmarks - High End

I haven't heard Tyan having octa-socket capable core2 xeon motherboard. The only core2 Xeon chipset i know that can handle more than 2 CPU's is the 7300(Clarksboro) chipset, which can handle a maximum of 4 cpu's.
So prolly what you saw at the TechEd demo you saw was prolly a tyan typhoon series system, they've been showing those things since '06 i believe... But those are blade-based designs, and as such are composed of multiple motherboards.

Tyan is NOT even a consumer level motherboard, engineering sample or not its impossible to get a octa-socket system on the conditions you said, i think what you saw is what anton said.. server blades.
