Salamat sa mga nagpost, especially to flashfreak, michaelocana, and Rhee - your points are very helpful. I am a web designer for almost 3 years now. I code standards-based CSS/XHTML and ug gamay na javascript (jquery) and php. Like zichel, ganahan pud ko mkat.on ug web development especially backend side, programming/development. I'm planning to learn Ruby on Rails (is this good?), Subversion, and Linux Commands (aron makabalo ko mugamit CLI, is this needed?). But, like other newbies here, wala ko kabalo asa musugod. Do I have to learn Ruby first then Rails? What about Linux Command and SVN, are these really important? Thanks in advance.
Since you are already know php, instead of Ruby on Rails, you should try the a PHP framework like CodeIgniter, CakePHP or Zend Framework. Learning one of these may be daunting at first since making a website with these frameworks is so different than doing it in php alone but once you get the hang of it, you could make websites in half the time.
SVN is really used when there are many people working on a website and keeping versions of the code so you can fallback to an earlier version in case your latest one is buggy.
Linux commands are used if you would like to make/configure your own web server using various linux distros(like Ubuntu).
my advice is like bin'z too
wahh.. nid to learn more.. nid to read books and tuts. hehe
