Default We Know God’s Truth through Careful Consideration

We Know God’s Truth through Careful Consideration
    by Rick Warren

Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established. Proverbs 4:26 (HCSB)

    *** *** *** ***

When you tell God, “I want the truth more than anything else,” he will reveal his truth to you in a variety of ways, such as through creation or your conscience and also through careful consideration.

In other words, truth is knowable. You can test it; you can experiment with it; you can prove it.

If I want to go to San Francisco and I follow a map that takes me to San Francisco, and the next week I follow the same map to San Francisco again, eventually I figure out that the map is true.

The same is true of the Bible: If you follow its map again and again, you’ll find it to be true. It always takes you where it says it’s going to take you. You may not always like where it takes you, but it always takes you where it says it’s going to take you.

Often people say, “Why won’t God just write it in the sky?” Why would God do that? He gave you a brain. But most people never slow down long enough for such careful consideration. Most people just drift through life.

The Bible tells us, “Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established” (Proverbs 4:26 HCSB).

Spend some time in careful consideration, in thoughtful observation, and ask yourself: “Am I on a true path?”

Default We Know God’s Truth through God’s Commandments

    2009/01/23

We Know God’s Truth through God’s Commandments
    by Rick Warren

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)

    *** *** *** ***

If I discover truth from the Bible, how do I know the Bible is true? There’s a world of objective evidence, both external and internal, that says the Bible is true.

External evidence proves the Bible is a historical book that you can rely on. There are 5,366 copies of the Bible dating from the time it was written to just 70 years afterwards. That fact dispels the urban legend that the Bible was changed as it passed through generations and languages.

External evidence also includes many archeological discoveries. For example, historians used to say that Solomon couldn’t have had the horses the Bible says he had because no one had horses at that time. But then thousands of horse stables were found in an archeological dig.

There’s also the internal evidence of the Bible itself. In a court of law, a prosecutor with two or three eyewitness accounts has a good chance of making his case. The Bible is filled with eyewitness accounts. Moses was there when the Red Sea split; Joshua was there to watch Jericho fall; the disciples saw the resurrected Jesus.

The internal evidence of the Bible also includes the fact that it tells one story with consistency – though it was written over 1,500 years on three different continents by 40 different authors from every walk of life. No human being could account for that. It’s an amazing example of God’s abilities.

The Bible says, “There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another — showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us” (2 Timothy 3:15-17 MSG).

Default Worship: The Barrier of Pride

    2009/02/16

    Worship: The Barrier of Pride
    by Rick Warren

It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NLT)

    *** *** *** ***

Life is a struggle, but what most people don’t realize is that our struggle, like Jacob’s in Genesis 32:22-32, is really with God! We want to be God, and there’s no way we’re going to win that struggle, but we try anyway.

A.W. Tozer said, “The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven’t yet come to the end of themselves. We’re still trying to give orders, and interfering with God’s work within us.”

We aren’t God, and we never will be. We’re humans, and the times when we try to be God are the times we end up most like Satan, who tried to be equal with God, too.

We accept our humanity intellectually, but not emotionally. We give mental assent to the idea, but when faced with our own limitations, we react with irritation, anger, and resentment. We want to be taller (or shorter), smarter, stronger, more talented, beautiful, and wealthy.

We want to have it all and do it all, and become upset when it doesn’t happen. Then, when we notice God gave others characteristics we don’t have, we respond with envy, jealousy, and self-pity.

What it means to surrender. Surrendering to God is not passive resignation, fatalism, or an excuse for laziness. It is not accepting the status quo. It may mean the exact opposite: sacrificing your life in resistance to evil and injustice, or suffering in order to change what needs to be changed. God often calls surrendered people to do battle on his behalf. It’s not for cowards or doormats.

Surrendering is not putting your brain in neutral and giving up rational thinking. God would not waste the mind he gave you! God does not want robots to serve him. Surrendering is not repressing your personality. God wants to use your unique personality. Rather than being diminished, surrendering enhances your uniqueness.

    C. S. Lewis observed, “The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become – because he made us.He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be. It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.”

    Requirements of discipleship

    1st Reading: Dt 30:15-20/ Gospel: Lk 9:22-25

Jesus said," The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by elders and the chief priests and teachers of the Law, and put to death. Then after three days he will be raised to life."

Jesus also said to all people,"If you wish to be a follower of mine, deny yourself and carry your cross each day, and follow me.For if you choose to save your life, you will lose it, and if you lose your life for my sake, you will save it.What does it profit you to gain the whole world while you destroy yourself?"

Daily Gospel in our Life Experience

Unlike politicians who use deceptive strategies to garner votes,Jesus did not sugarcoat his message to deceive his followers. He did two things campaign managers would never approve.First:He told the truth about his suffering and death.Second:He told the truth about the sufferings that awaited his followers.

At a time when the Jews needed a superhero to bail them outfrom the clutches of the Romans,Jesus coul have presented himself as a superhero. He did not.Instead, he said,"The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the elders and chief priests and teahcers of the Law, and put to death.then after three days he will be raised to life." he could have softened the impact by angling revelations in a manner that would emphasize the ressurection more than his death. He did not.

We have a God whos is not afraid of sufferings, who is not scared of tribulations and who doesn't feel harrased by death.Bailing us out for sufferings is not God's priority.Pulling us out of quagmire of crisis is not something urgent for God in the light of the spiritual cleansing derived from the experience.

In the light of this we understand better why Jesus never concealed from his listeners the sufferings and persecutions that awaited his followers. He said:if you wish to be a follower of mine, deny yourself and take up your cross each day and follow."He could have softened the impact by speaking leats about the sufferings. After all he was only at the campaign stage and it was necessary not to scare his recruits. He did not.

We have a God whos does not only require faith but good works in the following oreder:deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow him. It is not enough to follow him in faith. We must accompany our faith with concrete works of self denial and the bearing of the crosses.

Jesus lays down his cards as he laid them down before. Will you come and follow?- Rev. Fr dan Domingo P. delos Angeles,Jr.DM-HRM.Email:frdanph@yahoo.com.text 09196744507 Please state the senders name and location.

    Prayer for the Day
O God,give us the determination to deny
ourselves, the strenght to take up our
crosses,a and the courage to follow
    Jesus.May our Lenten observance spur
us our life or charity.Grant this through
    Christ our Lord.Amen
You should know that loving the world is the same as hating God.Anyone who wants to be a friend of the world become's God's enemy James 4:4
