single core to dual core - need help

i'm upgrading my pc from single core to daul core. while i'm writing this my pc has A64 3800 processor on it. i wanna upgrade it to A64 x2 5600. but in the process nga ako na nataud ang new processor, windows gave me an error. "could not start up windows" i recieved an hour glass and went completely stalled.

now, my chip set is nvidia mcp61 (socket AM2 <-- i know this coz i physically saw it sa Mobo). i called support from nvidia to amd.

Nvidia told me that my processor should run...
AMD told me that the x2 5600 should run i just need to find what program causing the error. and using recovery cd don't nescessary help it.

Question sa mga kamao: is it possilbe nga modagan ni nga set up? what went wrong, unsa angay buhaton? (last option - technician)

wala ka nag-install new OS? only the cpu ra ang gichange?

Bitaw, I think you need to reinstall the OS if mag change ka ug Processor. Ako sa una pag upgrade nako nag reinstall jud ko para siguro.

you need to reinstall/reformat your pc.

yes nvidia and amd told you that your processor should run but they did not mean that you should install it without reinstalling your OS.

if im not mistaken, kung magformat ka computer, iapil man gud na sa registry kung unsa ang specs sa imo system, so kung naay vital components nga mausab ana, like another motherboard, mausab na ang values di na siya makarecognize mao nga imo jud na ireformat.

by the way, did you reformat?
basin nareformat na nimo wa lang ka nagmention.

it should run even without reformating, not unless if needed ang driver to make it run, which sa processor walay need na.. but anyways, u might wanted to reformat it if it wont run..

try these procedures sa..

1. check ure BIOS setting and set it all to default, save and exit.
2. try if u can go to a safe mode and disable autorun of unnecessary applications.
3. restart and cross your fingers...

sometimes, you need to reinstall xp kung mag change kag computer components. however, i suggest first try repairing xp, i assume nag xp ka ug naa ka bootable na xp installer.

it is necessary jd mga bro na mag uprade og mag change ka ug compartments sa emng system mag reformat jd ka sa emong windows sa emong HDD ? for example mag change kow ug proc,mobo and vcard akow e.format akong HDD for fresh install OS jd ?

not necessarily. usually with new mobo, u also need to re-install windows due to driver issues with its components. with vcard, it can load to windows k it only reads the vcard bios before the windows uses the software drivers. that's the time naa ka driver issues and may cause computer lock ups.

dapat with procie, hdd, plug n play devices, u dont need to reformat or reinstall your OS.

@ YOB - wla ra ga refomat bro (though i have it in mind) kai just before ko mkacontinue, this is what i see sa screen: mogawas ang 2 ka option sa bios, "unable to run window's and need to fix it. if you have installed new hardware remove it and call your service provider".

this is a compaq pc ang iyang OS naa sa recovery cd and system restore.
ni try nko sa system restore pero dili ka continue up load. mo run until sa colored hour glass nya mo hang nah - black screen.

gi-advice sa amd and compaq tech support no need na mo re-format....

akong suwayan ang safe mode if mo run. any more suggestion under sa safe mode i'm willing to try.

can you post the full specs of you pc including the model?
