Evil is a privation of good...
All things are good inasmuch as they exist in reality... however... what you consider as evil is not evil incarnate... in christian philosophy, these calamities are called physical evil which are either effects of what men have done or just nature's way of maintaining ecological balance... on the part of the passions or feelings and the lower appetites like lust and greed, these things are caused by man because of his freedom... God created man as a free and rational being... even if God wants man to do good, man sees many things as apparent goods even if it could do harm to him... man is carried away by his desires so he does things which are not good... God does not create evil... Evil is the absence of goodness... God could even create a perfect world that does not have any trace of evil but God respects the freedom he has given to man... What he does is that he tries to win back the hearts of men and i think this means that we have to control our appetites and passions...
