MC - Multi-coated.
MC filters reduces flaring due to it's higher quality build and glass. Check out the photos for comparison (not my photos though):

@eros: For your expensive lenses, I highly recommend getting an MC filter.

B+W & Hoya are both lens filter brands. Both are good in my opinion, don't really see a difference.
I use both brands, but my MC CPL filters are both B+W. Have a Hoya +4 filter for my 50mm, murag near macro shots. B+W UV filter for my L.
