    ok, let me give you a brief outlook at the snakes of the Phils. There are 7 snake groups found here in our country, only 3 of this group have potentially dangerous snakes, the Colubrids (rear-fanged) the elapids (cobras and Kraits), and the Viperids (vipers). both of the elapids and viperids are all highly venomous snakes though not all are aggressive but still dangerous. The colubrids on the other hand is the most diverse, some are not venomous at all while some are also dangerous. Your snake belongs to this group. In the Phil setting, it is safe to say that out of the 115 species of snakes that we have, only 15 are potentially dangerous (those that can kill) the rest are either non-venomous or slightly venomous having said this and knowing the 15 species of snakes that are venomous, i can say that what you have right now does not belong to the dangerous ones, never the less, it is still a snake and it still can inflict a bite or a mild envenomation, so just keep your hands off it for the mean time, more so coz we still dont know its true ID. we'll if you have it eating, and if it seems to be in pretty good shape then go on, keep the hobby going......that's how i started.....what doesnt kill you makes you more knowledgeable...hehehe Good luck!

    very good mate!! but you forgot the Laticaudinae & Hydrophidae.. Don't take them off the list just yet..
    definitely not a keelback though.. but good one there, complete and excellent analysis... hehe
    liopeltis would be next on my list..

    My opinion + heycroc's opinion = a definite conclusion...

    and as what heycroc said: if you can keep it healthy, feeds good and in good shape, then go for your life... keeping snakes and other reptiles are good.. but just keep it mind to be RESPONSIBLE..

    looking at the photos again, i'd say a lycodon or a liopeltis...

    i would have said its an oligodon (kukri snake), but i'd be difinitely wrong then.. the head morph definitely just doesn't fit the bill for a kukri.. the color pattern might, but then again not...

    Maybe but not deadly
    @herp_doctor
    Definitely not a kukri for the following reasons a.) a 2.5 ft. kukri snake would already exhibit the kukri coloration against the eyes. (murag naay sanggot sa mata) b) kukris have banded red patterns and not blotched c.) kukris have pointed tails and stiff. (mura og tusok) d.) kukris have reddish tinge coloration. (considering only kukris here in the Phils.) I also have one definite reason why i wouldnt consider Lycodon, Its head isnt flat enough and I've also seen 7 of the 10 species of lycodons, doesnt show any similarity. I'm looking further into liopeltis......just might be it.
