actually CLOSER was a 2004 release. It's a 2004 film, but what the hell - we've seen it this year anyway.

Which is why I probably won't make a list yet, some of the best films of a year (like Stay with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts) usually come on at the end of the year or early the following year...

Definitely 2005 has been a year of movie duds. I hope King Kong can save it somehow.

My fav so far this year:
-Batman Begins (great script, great acting.. loved the tumbler)
-Sin City (Jessica Alba.... nuf said!)

My 2 Major Dissapointments this year:
-War of the Worlds (too many loopholes. I didn't like the scene were Tom offered himself to be captured by those walking sticks so he can announce to the invading race that he's in love with Katie Holmes)
-Revenge of the Sith (Anakin's transformation from good Jedi to dark Sith wasn't convincing enough for me. Also hated Darth Vader shouting NOOOOO! at the very end. Hey George.. he aint no Frankenstein)

Sideways was great but it was a 2004 film.

not to offend anyone but the films you've all mentioned are box office successes, not necessarily the best, but thats all subjective isn't it. a film will have to be adorned by the award giving bodies, the film critics circles and most importantly the masses, for it to be the "best film".

Out of all the best pictures candidates there, I've seen only Cinderella Man, Crash and A History of Violence. Really nice films.

I can't wait to see Clooney's Good night and Good luck and Capote. Syriana, the new film, is quickly becoming the favorite.

Spielberg's Munich is gonna be big but he prefers to go the indie approach. He's not gonna market the film Hollywood style, very bold move.

and of course theres Memoirs of a Geisha.
