ROOTS OF CORRUPTION:
Yes it is sad but it is true. Corruption has become a culture already in our country. It is not just from one government agency to another, but it is us as a people already. What a lot do not know is that corruption in the PRIVATE sector is just as bad. Daghan kawat between employees and employers. Isig palusot, they call it buhay-buhay.
The question is, what causes this? Is it just because of a President who is corrupt? It has been said that during the time of Marcos, it was only him and his cronies were corrupt, now, everybody thinks they have the right to steal from the government when they are in public office. For them, it is natural and it is not a sin.
Others may not take this very well but the truth has to be told: [B]Corruption has its roots in idolatry. The very first commandment of God is: I am the Lord your God, and you shall not have any other gods besides Me. But what have we been doing? We go into idolatry and say that it is OK because we ask these idols for "intercession" so that they can pray to God for us. Yeah right. We have corrupted ourselves and considered one of the greatest sins which is idolatry as natural and part of our culture. Same way - corruption which is a great sin because it is stealing from the poor, we consider natural and a part of our culture. Others steal from the government to give to the poor. Now isnt that super twisted? The God of all mankind, the maker of heaven and earth, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, we just treat as a statue of stone and wood. In the bible, Jesus told us that the time has come for us to worship God in spirit and in truth. Not through statues and idols.
If you read your bible in the old testament, the sin that God really hates is idolatry. There are hundreds of verses in the Bible that show you how the Jews have been punished as they go into idolatry. The Philippines is heavily into idolatry and we are facing the consquences. Open your eyes and see! Even if -we call ourselves the only Catholic - (Christian?) nation in the ASEAN, we are deep into poverty and lack. We are a nation with very rich natural resources, but yet our people are as poor as dogs roaming in the streets. Some dogs eat better than these people. Why? Corruption equals idolatry lagi. Open your eyes and see! I challenge you, read the bible and seek the truth for yourselves.
