Cebu Dragons Rugby Club - Cebu 10's International Rugby Festival

Name of event: Cebu Dragons Rugby Club - Cebu 10's International Rugby Festival
    Date: April 25th, 2009
Time: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Location: Aboitiz Sports Field, next to Macro, North Reclamation Area
    FREE ENTRANCE

The Cebu Dragons Rugby Club - Cebu 10's International Rugby Festival is running for the second time in Cebu, and features two international teams, three manila teams, one mixed team, and two local bets; the Cebu Dragons and the Low-Flying Dragons. The inaugural tournament was won by the Alabang Eagles from Manila who defeated the Manila Nomads in the final, the Cebu Dragons claimed 4th spot after losing to the Selangor Dogs from Malaysia in the knock-out stage. Since the first tournament in January of 2007, Cebu rugby has developed in leaps and bounds, claiming the Shield Trophy at the auspicious Manila 10’s Tournament last year among an international field of 32 teams, and is the three-time defending champions of the Bowl Trophy at the annual Fat Boy 10’s.
The Cebu Dragons Rugby Club - Cebu 10's International Rugby Festival will showcase the best rugby teams from Cebu fighting for Visayan pride against the best Manila and Hong Kong have to offer. It will also serve as a warm up for the upcoming game against the Olney Rugby Football club from the UK, who will be playing a 15-a-side match against the Cebu club on Wednesday, April 29th at 6:00 pm at the same venue.

Rugby is a full-contact, no holds barred sport, often compared to American Football, just no helmets, no pads, and definitely no flags. A great spectator sport, it is growing quickly in the Philippines, and the national team has enjoyed many successes, including a Silver Medal at the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand.
The club would like to invite anyone who is interested to learn more about rugby to attend and, if you are so inclined, to participate in the day’s events. Rugby is a sport that can be enjoyed by young and old alike, whether male or female, or somewhere in between. The club holds regular training for beginners and experienced rugby players every Thursday and Sunday. You may contact club liaison Jerry Branzuela for more details, e-mail him at ceburugby@yahoo.com.

    Participating teams:
    Hong Kong Universities
    Kowloon
    Manila Nomads
    Nomads Carabaos
    Alabang Eagles
    Cebu Dragons
    Low-Flying Dragons
    Philippine Barbarians

    Charity Auction Merchandise:
Over the years the club has been lucky enough to have come into possession of a few items of some import to the rugby community. Despite all the blood, sweat and tears that were shed in our struggle to obtain such rare pieces of merchandise, we unanimously came to the decision that it is now time to part with these material objects for the benefit of the greater good.
As such, we are conducting an auction of this merchandise with 50% of the proceeds going to our selected charity. Operation Restore Hope, now on it's 17th year of bringing back smiles, is a not‐for‐profit, non‐governmental, non‐sectarian charity that surgically repairs cleft lips and palates for underprivileged children in Cebu. Our goal is to introduce these kids to Rugby and hopefully help re‐build their confidence for the future, which rugby instills. Kids who have benefited from this organization, and who are sill yet to benefit, will be assisting us on tournament day as ball boys and ball girls.
We have 5 major items to auction, you can e‐mail your pre‐bids or silent bids to Dave “the Sink” Smith at davidsmith@seabu.com. For comparison sake, please state your bid in Philippine Pesos. Cheers!

Hi is this DA, JB OR NF?

Just noticed your post. I've posted the Philippine Inquirer article on the site under "Rugby Union in the Philippines".

I couldn't find the one that The Freeman printed on the local paper they mustn't have put it on their web edition of their media outlet.

All the best with the tournament, I've posted the article in the other 14 forum sites I post any Cebu rugby stuff on.

    Cheers

    EE
