Malapascua or Bantayan island?

Ive been to both places, bantayan in 1996 and malapascua in 2006, so ten years apart. comparing the 2 places is like comparing 2 boxes of chocolate of different kinds and brands. malapascua is marketed primarily as a diving mecca. bantayan is marketed purely as a beach destination. if u go to a resort to socialize, then u better go to sta. fe in bantayan. otherwise, go to malapascua. admittedly, most people who go to the beach dont really swim. rather they just want to see and be seen by people. malapascua is not for socializing per se. no discos there, only bars. no posh resorts because true beach lovers and divers alike dont need those swanky rooms or pools or fancy restaurants. accommodations there consist mostly of thatched roof structures but still elegant enough for an execellent night sleep. cheap eateries abound offering unbelievably good food for a few pesos. all bars and karaoke joints will close at 11pm so u can sleep nicely at night after a day's island hopping or snorkelling n diving around the island.

real beach bums dont mind if the sand is a few feet wide or stretches out for miles offshore. we dont swim on the sand, do we? water matters most to us. whether its clear or deep anough for swimming regardless of tidal movement of the ocean. sea grasses n sea weeds r part of the marine ecosystem, so its perfectly okay as long as they dont kill u. if u go to the beach to swim then malapascua is a better option than bantayan.

this is a 2nd part of my comment about his thread.

malapascua is excellent for snorkelling especially in the northern and eastern portion of the island where excellent coral reefs still abound. sadly, the south and western portions have been long plundered by the locals who indiscriminately destroyed most of the coral life. diving sites r far off the island which takes about half to one hour boat ride. most larger resorts offer dive tours.

people who go there for the first time looking for socialization opportunity will be disappointed and will never come back. good for us who r true beach bums. we like it most when we see people go about their own business because u cant hear annoying loud chit-chat or boisterous laughter.

btw, ive been there in malapascua twice already despite its distance. am in qatar right now but I vow to return to the island once I get home someday.

Bantayan jud kay daghan ka kapili.an na ka stayhan...and nice beach jud
