    @ Riko Diko:

    ideally bro, consumers should have a decent knowledge with it, but thing is.. tax laws and revenue regulations change every now and then.. way back when i was still in college, we get to have new sets of taxation books yearly.. what one have learned few years ago is as good as obsolete..

    hopefully, with the initiative of incorporating machine-aided measures in levying and collecting of taxes, chances for business entities and bir revenue district officers as well might be minimized, if not prevented..

    anyway, the EVAT law is basically just an expansion what is covered by VAT, it already include electricity, fuel, and transportation among other previously VAT-exempt sectors.. it also gives the president standby authority to raise the VAT from the present 10 percent of the sales of goods and services to 12 percent in January, next year, subject to certain conditions..

    amount attributable to VAT, would form part of your sales price.. for tax computation purposes, that will comprise of your 'output tax', however, the amount of VAT Payble by business entities would then be equal to 'output tax' less 'input tax' ( later is amount of VAT included to the cost of goods being sold by an entity)

    bai givert. so, evat is 12% which is a result of "extending" the existing vat by 2%. correct? so, how come when evat was implemented weeks ago, gas stations increased by 10%+? the vat extension is only 2% right?
    TIA.

    @minuano: i agree. establishments choose to abide with the conditions with corrupt BIR agents to SAVE time, hassle, and of course money... negosyo na gud na. hehe.. the most effective way of cost-cutting. haha..

    @riko:

    by 'expansion/expanded/extension', it refers to sectors/entities that are subjected to value added tax.. VAT was already set at 10%, but as what i have stressed on my last post, the difference has to do with what entities are subjected to it.. one major difference of which is subjecting sale of petroleum products, non-food agricultural products and air/sea common careers to it.. so, these transactions were basically not covered by the old VAT law.. sale of petroleum products before were subjected to 'excise tax' only, (no VAT component on the price) that's why when the new vat law was implemented last november 1, prices of such were increased by 10% to cover it..

    the 12% or additional 2% to the old rate was again a prerogative given to PGMA as discretionary, but of course it has to meet certain conditions before she can increase it by 2%.. (GDP or National Debt)Â* Â*

    ok. now I understand. bai givert, if it's not too much hassle, can you explain the input and the output taxes? i've heard it many times already but I never really gave it a thought. please state a sample business, like a restaurant or an avertising company perhaps. thanks bro.

    Official receipt and Cash Invoice are partly the same in nature. Nowadays, most establishments used Official Receipt (OR) as a proof for any transaction you made in that particular establishment and there are establishment also used Cash Invoice. These two forms are used if you make a transaction which is purely paid by cash.
