^^ Yeah, it's based on that volume. There was a promotional ad released last year, and a viral website as well.
Anyway, I read a lot of writeups in the net, and a lot hated the baseball and spaceship episodes whereas I actually loved those eps. I can't stop laughing... it was genuinely funny and even moving (especially the part where Kyon asked Yuki Nagato if she wanted to play around with the computer club, that was just a few seconds but with significant character development)

Yeah i'm seeing a lot of Viral Marketing nowadays. It's cheap, it's easy and people love to talk. My only concern would be the hype.
I'm expecting the next season to be more confusing especially for those who haven't read the novels yet...

does anyone know how to read Kana here? Apparently, there has been an announcement about Churuya and Haruhi getting anime shorts in lieu of a real sequel. The problem is, the announcement is in japanese. See below:
