@nightzlayer: I already did a fresh install. Tanan. starting from the OS.

@Beor: That's something which didn't cross my mind yet. I'll check on that.

Thanx for the inputs everyone! I'll update this once i get results.
bai.. you said that no hardware was changed and that you did a fresh install of your XP.

assuming there's no problem with the memory... actually very unlikely since you didn't encounter problems duing the setup and your XP is running ok, then my best guess is that there's something wrong with your hard disk. Even if you have a high end system in place, if you have a sluggish hard disk, then that will affect the overall system performance of your system simply because your hard disk will become a bottle neck.

When you "burn" a DVD using Nero, it uses cache (except when using On-The-Fly copy mode). Nero uses your hard disk as cache everytime you burn a cd/dvd. Cache is used to make sure there's a smooth transfer or writing of data to your DVD writer. A buffer underrun error occurs when the CD/DVD writer runs out of data to write to the CD/DVD. Slow CD/DVD drive source if you're using On-the-Fly copy, Small cache, or defective DVD writer i believe will usually cause this error.

you can also follow beor's suggestion by checking the cache setting . increase the cache in this case.
i suggest that you try a different known good hard disk to rule out the hard disk as the culprit why your computer suddenly slowed down.
better yet... use some free diagnostic software to check the performance of your Hard disk. try hdtune www.hdtune.com/download.html
