THREE suspected car thieves were killed while a policeman was injured following a shootout in the Ortigas Center in Pasig City late Monday evening, reports said.
At around 10 p.m., police intercepted the suspects who were driving a red Nissan Sentra sedan at the corner of Garnet and Ortigas Jr. streets after receiving a tip from an informant.

The suspects however refused to yield and opened fire at the pursuing policemen, said Chief Superintendent Augusto Angcanan, Traffic Management Group (TMG) director.

“We had to use reasonable force to repel the aggressors. They fired at our policemen,” Angcanan said on GMA Network's “Unang Hirirt” newscast.

Two of the three slain suspects were identified based on their driver's licenses as Brian Anthony Dulay and Francis Javier Manzano, reports said.

Senior Inspector Samuel Belmonte was shot on the leg and was brought to the hospital for treatment, said Interior Secretary Angelo Reyes.

Police recently intensified their campaign against carjacking, which they admitted has been on the rise recently.

there was a video footage and witnesses that says it was indeed a shootout, makita sa footage that the policemen fired at the carnappers in point blank range... very disturbing ang footage because, makita sad sa video nga buhi pa ang mga tao sud sa sakyanan pero gibirahan pa... and planted pa ang mga armas that was recovered on the crime scene...

Your statements are very contradictory. You say it's a shootout pero planted ang armas?...

Secondly, is it a fact na planted ang armas? or is it your own opinion? has the results of the paraffin test been brought out to the public?

While I agree that the PNP personnel used excessive force during the incident, the video footage only tells a small part of the story, not the entire story.

In the video that was taken by UNTV, it showed that Brian Dulay was not holding a gun while he was being shot to death. But when the media arrived and they took footages, there was already a gun in the hand of Dulay. Most likely it was a rubout.

The Video of UNTV did not show the hands of the alleged carnappers. It only showed that they were slumped and almost dead. Remember, that it was shot on one of the floors of the building and they were not allowed to go near the crime scene.

There was a shot in the UNTV video that showed the hands of Dulay. Saw it on the news last night. Try watching UNTV.

Last night I watched News Central and the video of UNTV shows that the alleged carnappers doesn't have any fire arms during the shoutout. It was clear that the firearms which was confiscated after the incident was nothing but planted.

Although the video doesn't tell the whole story but still considered part of the whole story.
