@Viktor: In the press and multimedia industry, large amounts of files are submitted to the publisher by clients. Using a free email service like this is a lot of savings as there is no server to maintain.

i dunno with you viktor but this is really useful for me... $db is right, this is really handy when it comes to transfering large files. imagine, you have a client abroad, and wasn't able to meet you online thru any instant messengers... then this 30gb mail storage is the solution for you. sweet

I don't know how their servers will be able to handle all of the uploads/downloads...

You may probably just consider Streamload.

@Viktor: With Streamload, you can upload up to 10GB but can only download up to 10MB per file, up to 100MB of your stored files per month. As with other free file storage services like Rapidshare, Megaupload, Mytempdir, YouSendIt, there are always some restrictions that can cause your file to expire or become difficult to download. With email, your files are safe inside the receiver's Inbox.

$dbpasswd: which makes it really ambitious (ambitious=nearly impossible), don't you think? Where are they getting their cash to maintain this? Are their servers reliable? Are you going to be subject to a lot of spam? Do they offer antivirus blocking or something similar?

All I'm saying is; don't put your hopes up on this service. It just doesn't sound right; it's just too good to be true. Another Internet publicity stunt, if you ask me.

Well, with the way the Internet is going: server spaces now at the tetrabytes range, bandwidths at the gigabit range, broadband rates slashing half by half--it's quiet possible. Maybe 30gigs.com is merely attempting at an early first landmark by making such a big leap in free email space. I think the service will be sustained by premium subscription plans with email spaces above 30gigs and such. According to their Development Blog, they will also branch into webhosting and some other community services like profile networks.
