Friendster is shutting down?

Well many of our fellow istoryans got hooked on this. Here's something I read somewhere:

Friendster is Shutting Down
Have you been having problems with Friendster? It's not surprising! Did you know Friendster is deleting your friends, and shutting down soon? It's true. Also, starting next week, Friendster is charging users $7.95 for every friend in their profiles over the free limit of 20. Also, starting in April, Friendster will be charging users a 25-cent premium on every real-life interaction they have between each other, to be paid according to the honor system. Plus, Friendster is selling the information in your profile to spammers, pornographers, and John Ashcroft.

What is the truth about this?
Personally, I only believe half of this. could be a hoax or something.
Have you checked you account today? Me? I got two (2) friends left on my account.

I still have all my friends on friendster.. but when i click to view their profile it says

Ive noticed that friendster has been having some problems lately(last 2 days) probably a server thing. (Hacked)

I kinda doubt the announcement above that friendster is charging people for anything. Its a very bad move for them considering there are lots and lots of other social networking sites out there. Doing such a thing will be the last nail on their coffin.

i dunno if naka-view ka sa friendster ganiha buntag... kay ganiha, na-shock nalang ko kay nigamay akong mga friends... pero kadto nang pag-udot, nigawas na tong maintenance page...

On the contrary about the quoted article(?) posted above, somebody also said and I quote: "it was some data center outage. Some QTS Sunnyvale had a major power event. Details are slim, but apparently it was an entire site outage."

I guess some data back-up problems?

abi nako ako ra nigamay ang friends sa friendster, from 491 it's down to 23 today, huh?...as in shocked jud ko, i wonder if mabalik pa kaha to sila no?

Most of you don't know pala that Friendster has been practically "economically dead" since 2006. During a regular discussion session with the Commonweath Group in San Francisco, California, in which the topic was on Social Network Service popularity sometime November 2006, the panel jokingly and sarcastically referred to the Philippines and Guam as the only two places keeping Friendster alive. Everyone else has moved on to Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and virtual worlds.
