    Default Game and Graphics programming

    I thinks its about time na mo.apil sad ta sa craze karn sa manila regarding game development. Ive travelled to manila and back para mo apil sa ilang mga seminars and exhibits and ako lang ma ingn kay daku2 cla ug potential jd.. like naay ubang mga schools na nag-offer ug game and graphics course ug naa sad clay interschool game dev competetion (UGOTGAME). then last time ni adto ko kay naay ni ingn nako na taga didto ug nangutana kng taga cebu ba ko and ni suggest na y not also strenghten game dev here in cebu by calling all interested parties and forming a group.. what do u think mga pipz of cebu?

    Heres how we will do it.. members of the group will share their knowledge about game programming and theories( 2D, 3D, also including mobile ) by this dali ra makaton ang uban sa mga things like Windows programming, DirecTX/Opengl, shaders and even mobile game dev. this will more like a discusion group pero at the end of the round (lets say mga 6 months to 1 year per round) naa tay output game bsag gamay lang. and this game will also serve as portfolio in case mag apply ka ug game or graphics company. Ang things na ma cover kay ang overall game development jd booth in 2D and or in 3D using different graphics API and pwedi sad ta mag build atung own API. So far pwedi ko maka teach 3D graphics sa nyu ug isa nako ka amigo na taga cebu pud


    By the way ok ko ani since pwedi ko mag start pag teach sa nyu about directX since ive been using dx for almost 6 yrs now and all i can observe is murag wlay interested dri sa cebu.. but daghan sa manila. Naa sad koy naka meet dri sa cebu interested pud cya sa game programming and also has experience sa dx so mao na nakahunahuna ko balik na padayunon ug himo ug group and again this is just for those hobbyist lang jd.

    kabaw ka mo gamit dx9? d3d in particular.. wapa ko ka try kai wai oras download sa SDK with my super fast dial connection XD.. 8months paman ko dx gud ddraw ra akong na testingan.. e PM ko sa imong mga resources kong asa ka ngita og mga tutorials and articles about DX kong ok lang or kong naa ba kaha kai E-book heheeh...

    ahhh~~~ daghan pa kaau kog katoon about 3D wa lang ko oras..

    Windows game programmers ra? Or pwede J2ME game programmers (para cell phone)? Ganahan unta ko naa ka group study isometric game programming
    (ala Diablo) kay dili pa man powerful kaayo mobile phones to run 3D games although naa na hinuon 3D graphics library ang J2ME pero let's face it without
    hardware support, dugay pa siguro ta kaduwa super duper fast 3D games sa mobile phones.

    Pero murag kamo ra siguro Windows game programmers kay DirectX na man inyo gi-istoryahan.

    Besides learning DirectX, kahinanglan strong mo data strucs and algos. Naa ko Data Structures for Game Programmers ni Ron Penton. SimpleDirectmediaLayer
    (SDL) lang gamit dili DirectX kay mas complex DirectX.

    I'm very much eager to learn about game and graphics programming, but I'll probably steer away from DirectX since I may not be able to use most of that knowledge across multiple platforms. The closest thing I ever did on graphics programming was on a project for Linear Algebra-- just a couple of linear transformations and nothing more. I wasn't lucky enough (actually, patient & diligent enough) to have finished college, and thus I wasn't able to take the Computer Graphics elective in our school (I can't jump ahead since it had a bunch of prerequisites). I'll learn on my own.

    It has been months since I've last worked on a Windows environment.

    Personally, I would not touch DirectX too as I don't have access to Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 or whatever its new version now. DirectX/Windows
    programming using C/C++ are for serious developers only kay dapat rich imo background Win32 APIs (I don't think MFC is a good framework for
    commercial games).

    I'm not sure though if "edutainment" software developers use Visual Basic but if they do, this is a nice niche market. Plus murag easier to call
    DirectX API via VB (dili ko sure kay wa ko ka try), nabasa lang nako mga articles.

    I'm not also "mathematically gifted" so 3D games programming is way over my head. Lipay nako kung makahimo kung isometric game like
    Diablo or maski side scrolling platform games in J2ME. Pero nag-self study pa ko design patterns kay looking back at my old source code makes me
    want to cry. Dili pa dyud di-ay enough OO know-how.

    Pero lingaw ni bai pero like cebugdev said, dapat naa focus. Kung DirectX sila, di na lang ko magsamok samok ila. Good luck. Unta makakita ta

    dude daghana interested oi.. By the way i point out lang nako na ang focus nako today is directX but ive been also coding OGL before.. ang point mga guys is ang Graphics ug Game programming which akng pasabot kay dli mo matter watever platform. Kay kng masabtan ang theories sa graphics specially in 3D wla nay problema bsag unsa na platform ang istoryahan ani.. like for example kng kasabot na ka sa concepts jd pwdi gani ka mag himu ug imuhang graphics API.. right now mas recommended ang pagkaton ug theories rather than focusing on 1 ka graphics API pwedi man gani ni i-abstract lang ang design para ang user mo pili lang kng unsa na API ang gamiton, example kng ganahan cya ug dx in.anion lang:
    CGraphicsDevice pDevice = new CGraphicsDevice("DirectX",....
    oh dba nindut? hehehe
    ANd for the mobile thing.. right now 2D pa ang supported sa mga phones and ur talking about j2me right? daghna platform na mas nindut pa sa j2me oi.. like ang symbian c++ na mas paspas pa sa j2me then kng kabaw na ka sa theories behind graphics pwedi ka mag implmenet ug SOFTWARE based 3D graphics using 2D grahpics lang.. pm me kng wla kay idea unsa na kay i introduce tka..

    cge cge apil ko ug himo sa game.
    nakasulay ko himo ug java game simple ra kaau pick up sticks, java 2d gamit.
    and graphics programming using opengl 1.1 and 3ds models.

    yup in VB, mas sayon ang call sa APIs, para 3D .. nagstudy ko about 3D months ago, peru VB6 lang siya..

    im not good in this stuff(game programming) peru pwede man cguro apil diba?? the important thing to know are the theories, etc.. and how to implement those things man cguro..
    peru i think since bag.o paman, mas nindot if we start on 2D, for now.. then ->3D then ->4D then ->5D, aheheheh

    kumusta nani nga thread?.. anyways Im definetly providing engouh time to re study gamedev.. J2ME? i donno, most of the high end games are made with c/c++. why focus on cellphones when you can use full power of your PC to render your games.. for some reason hinayan lang ko sa Java..

    VB6, yes vb is very easy to use it. specially with DX.. ang iya lang limitations when it comes to classes can be annoying sometimes, kong naa lang ko enough time saona wala tako ga VB sa akong (first and only)complete game. now dependent nako sa vb T_T. i dont know sa vb.net kong na usab naba ni nila kai wa pako ka suway... Im definetly switching to the programming language by choice(c/c++) in developing games. I just need the proper resources, and lots of time. im planning to upgrade my pc para maka suway najud ko sa full potential sa DX... i want to use pixel shaders!!!!1111 donate mo nako og money!! hehehe..
