Why buy Apache or Mil 24 Hind, they dont have the firepower that can destroy fortified targets, let the air force have the AC-130 Gunship, has an armament ranging from 20 mm Gatling guns to 105 mm howitzers. These heavily-armed aircraft incorporate side-firing weapons integrated with sophisticated sensors, navigation and fire control systems to provide precision firepower or area-saturation fire with its varied armament. The AC-130 can spend long periods flying over their target area at night and in adverse weather. The sensor suite consists of a television sensor, infrared sensor, and radar. These sensors allow the gunship to visually or electronically identify friendly ground forces and targets in most weather conditions.

I think AC-130s are more effective if the target is in the desert(i.e no tree cover) but if the enemy is hiding in forests it's difficult to pinpoint the enemy's location from the AC-130 hence their effectiveness would be reduced

The transport capability of the Hind is a huge plus especially for a country like the Philippines with its islands and difficult terrain.

Cheap mass fire power gunship is what the Philippines needed.

Do attack helicopters or bombers attack a target without visual confirmation? Same with the AC-130 Gunship, it will not just fire its weapons without visual confirmation from the ground, and you know why its called an close air support? because they use the gunship when the infantry are engaging an enemy or under a heavy fire.. So when your in the forest hiding, spotters from the ground (that will be from a reconnaissance team) will give your location to the Gunship and the rest will follow..

On May 12, 2008 the Philippine Air Force signed a contract with Alenia Aermacchi to order 18 brand new units of SF-260 military trainers to be assembled at Clark Air Base at a contract price of 14.6 million US Dollars.[9]

According to Air Force Public Information officer Major Gerardo M. Zamudio Jr., that aside from the new SF-260 trainer planes and night capable attack helicopters, the PAF is set to purchase under its capability upgrade program, 8 primary trainer aircraft, 10 additional Huey UH-1H utility helicopters, 8 brand new combat utility helicopters, 8 new attack helicopters, 2 light lift aircraft, and 12 trainer helicopters.

The Air Force is also out to upgrade 20 MD520MG attack helicopters.

These acquisitions and upgrades, including aerial surveillance cameras, communication equipment, 1.2-ton trucks, and additional military hardware, are part of PAF’s Horizon 1, the internal security - centered stage of modernization focused on making insurgent groups irrelevant by the year 2010.

Horizon 2, the transition stage to territorial defense, is set to take effect by 2012.[10]

Air Force Chief Lt. Gen. Pedrito Cadungog said the Air Force is presently in the process of making a study of what type of fighter jets they are going to acquire. He said the acquisition can only start after 2010 which is the projected defeat of internal security threats.

I'm still in favor of a helicopter gunship kesa AC-130

You said AC-130 can destroy fortified targets.. I don't think we need AC-130 to do that.. MILF and NPA rebels only have trenches and makeshift buildings.. rockets from helicopter gunships would suffice
