Default SiCKO: A documentary film by Michael Moore

I bothered to post this documentary film by michael moore. Since its more of a political documentary rather than a Film. It is a pure documentary about the United States Health Care system. No actors and actresses.

The documentary really shocked me and made me laugh.

For those Filipinos who wish to have their treatment or operation in the US think twice. Healthcare in the US cost about 5 times as much here in the Philippines. And their health insurance system is what we call here "Inutil". Many people are denied coverage and it is extremely difficult and inconvenient to use their health insurance. A lot of conditions and requirements before they can get health coverage. The patient will end up dead just fighting to get health coverage. There are a lot of cases where in people were denied health coverage in emergency situations and the results are horrific.

In cotrast Canada, UK and France Universal health system is the opposite.
Everything is free when you go to the hospital no matter how large and small the cost of the treatment.
The only requirement for them to get "free" treatment is their "need".
You might be wondering does these include those extremely high cost operations like heart transplant, lung transplant, Brain operation, cancer treatment and the likes?
I may not sound clear on my previous statements but their hospitals treat their patients not based on how much money or insurance coverage they can give but it's based on their Need. If they need the treatment they get it, for free. all Covered by the Government.
If you go to a UK and check their hospitals they don't even have cashiers station. Since there are no cash involved there. All are free.
I laughed when Micheal Moore spent all his day looking for a single cashier station. People actually laughed at him since he was so anxious to find where to pay the Bills its like a joke there It simply can't be possible, no cashier on the hospital. As what I mentioned everything is free why would they need a cashiers station?
He finally found one cashier station very tiny and on the very corner alley of the Hospital(unlike here where it would be the biggest and at the center of the entrance). And he tried to inquire why is there a cashier when everything is free here. The answer is simple. Imagine a cashier station instead of receiving money they give out money to the patients for transportation reimbursement and any cost of getting to the Hospital.

When Mr Moore was having a gathering party of his volunteer interviewees which are americans living in france, he was joking like the only thing left for their hospital services there are to send doctors for home service treatment. Imagine calling you doctor on 3am because you have fever and asking your doctor to come to your house at this very hour to get a check up. Sounds ridiculous?
Well They have 24/7 home service doctors. If you don't feel well you can always call your doctor to have a check up right in your home. They seem to be striving in improving their quality service as well. The Doctors are not only free but they would arrive in your doorstep within 30 mins.

They have doctors roaming around the city just like a cop waiting to be dispatched to the nearest patient.

All of these are free and paid by the government.
Here in the Philippines how difficult would it be to see a doctor, you have to wait for your turn even up taking an hour just to see them and pay P400-P500 for every check up. Not to mention in US by which the cost of their health care is exponentially higher compared to the Philippines.

Here in the Philippines and in US when a working parent is unable to take care of his/her child we usually send our child to a daycare or hire a nanny in our case maid which will cost you a hefty price. But in France the government provides the nanny for free and their daycare centers are for free. You can even negotiate with the free home service nanny to do the all around like doing the laundry and cooking dinner.

Not only that France in their labor code. They have hyper wage standard, here is the good part they have a mandatory paid vacation leave of at least 5 weeks per year. One reason why the have those mandatory paid vacation leaves is that if employees are more relaxed they would be more productive.

In US people work at least 2 jobs. Some even 3 jobs. It is mainly a concept of slavery in a capitalist society fashion.

there are a lot more to the Film try watching SiCKO by michael moore you will find out how similar our healthcare is to the US in terms of expense and How US health care system are being controlled by Huge Pharmaceutical companies much like the Philippines.

france is cool. free healthcare and all that.

Even Cuba are adopting Universal Health Care.
Universal free health care would also impact the price of Drugs.
There was that 911 volunteer who bought her inhaler in US for $100+ dollars. (Without any government discounts or amnesty whatsoever)
While in Cuba would only cost 5 cents. Hahaha. The same brand and type.

    @hobie: Downloading as well. Hehe.

You realize that as a Filipino, if you can afford to have an operation in the US, money probably isn't the issue ... care probably is right?

Like many of Moore's movies, this movie has an agenda. It tells one side ... his side ... and displays the downfall of another plan. I like universal healthcare ... but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's downfalls. It is folly to believe that one way of doing things will solve any and all problems.

Well, as wonderful as free health care might sound, socialized medicine has drawbacks. The waiting lists for example can be ridiculous. For example, a patient in need of a Ganglionectomy which is a fairly quick procedure might have to wait for a couple of months before undergoing surgery due to the number of other patients with more serious medical problems. That's a month or two of chronic pain. Now, I like universal health care, but Sicko for me was just a tad bit one sided. But at the same time, it was also honest in showing some major problems of the American health care system.
