You're doubting if killing an animal to save a human life is ethical yet you haven't considered the fact that everyday we kill animals for food and for fun, even for anger.
The killing of innocent baboon in order to conduct experiment in saving human being is the epitome of greed and exploitation. Just because animals cannot speak up and defenseless, they are somehow regarded as less important than humans. As cohabitants of this planet, we have a moral obligation to question science and recognize that there should be limits to the harm man can inflict on nature.
Today's advanced technologies have brought feasible alternatives to using animals for research. Science has shown that animal experimentation is not only unproductive, but is also old-fashioned and should be replaced with sophisticated methods of biomedical research that are available for use right now like, in-vitro research utilizing cell tissue. Such method will give the most benefits to both people and animals because they are more accurate and reliable than animal experimentation.
Therefore, I would try my luck in using the modern methods. If it won't be successful, then I guess it's my time to rest. =D
