I was preeclamptic during my pregnancy with the first and third child.
The third (and last one) was more intense. Approaching my eight month of pregnancy, upon my prenatal visit, my blood pressure rose to an alarming 180/110 mm Hg. Determined to lat my baby reach full term, my obstetrician had me admitted for a week for a toxemia work-up. Management consisted of Aldomet, complete bed rest (left side-lying position to facilitate more blood and nutrient distribution to the baby inside), low salt diet and stress reduction. My blood pressure stabilized to 120/100 mm Hg. The intervention continued at home til I delivered the baby via C-section.
Since I was always had complications during pregnancy (Gestational Diabetes with my second) and after having 3 C-secs already, I had my tubes ligated during my last CS.
There is no prevention for preeclampsia. Women have greater predisposition to it if with strong familial medical history of hypertension.
