Default Fund lack hinders growth of RP sports

Do you believe guys that the the biggest problem why we don't win any medals in Olympics is because of the lack of budget?

For me, i beg to disagree. Maybe its one thing they can do corruption out of that budget. If an athlete is competitive enough, I believe he will excel, it has nothing to do with billions of budget from the Government. I don't say never give importance to sports budget BUT don't you think this will be an issue again for corruption?

I am a Filipino, i love our Filipino athletes but let us face reality that those guys outside the country is much competitive than us. I believe proper trainings for the athletes is the goal to achieve gold from the said competition and not that they say :

"The biggest problem has always been the (lack of) budget. We all have plans but it you don't have the budget nothing comes out of these," said Monico Puentevella, a congressman from Bacolod and head of the RP weightlifting association, is pushing for a bigger budget for the Philippine Sports Commission.

    What do you think?

We also lack a huge training pool. China wins almost all table tennis golds because they have 10 million registered table tennis players in their country. If everybody could play in sports that we should be good at, say badminton, athletics (long distance running my best bet), diving, gymnastics, baseball, etc, then we will have a better chance. Athletics, swimming, and gymnastics are so basic that it can be used in other sports. They should be compulsory sports and not basketball. USA uses their college and highschool system to get athletes. But the government does not fund them (not directly). The US Olympic Committee gets its funds from private sources. Australia, Cuba, and China use the talent identification program and gets lots of government and private support. In fact, Australia has its Australian Institute for Sport in Canberra to train their athletes.
I believe that mass participation is the way to get funding because companies will realize that they can get exposure and fund sports events and the athletes. The fact that we watch events we are not good at is an indication of interest. All we have to do is to go out there and play.

disagree lng ko ni davies107 para lain pud ako... hehehe... i was once a member of the RP Team(WEIGHTLIFTING) back then when i was 16-17 years old.. (now im 18 so bag-o pa lang ko nataktak sa team kay wa ko kaduwa pag nat'L open last)... there are many reasons why our athletes can't excel in sports... one is the training program, lately the Team Phils. have been sending athletes and coaches to CHINA for training and yes, records, performance, speed and etc. of athletes increase and knowledge of coaches in their certain event broaden.... but, these training camps takes a lot of budget that is why Phils. can only afford months training camp instead of years(other countries train for 1-2 years before Olympics, and dli basta2 nga training ha, training nga walay uli sa inyo.. di ka kita sa imong pamilya ug uban pa, hehehe). one more thing is that other countries combine training with science and technology..(if kita lng ka nila mag training ay mura silag gikuryentihan tungod sa mga wire sa ilang lawas nga nkakabit sa computer)..

naa pay daghang mga rason why we can't excel.. i say filipinos are just playing fair in competitions that makes winning difficult for us.(what i mean is no steroids, no drugs and no nothing).. bisan pa ug i-test na nila if nag dooping ba ang athlete before sa competition not all steroid or drugs can be identified by their devices or whatever u call it...

    thats all...

Daghan man rason nganong wala gyoy ayo ang atong Athletes. One other reason is palakasay and politics.
For example would be Jim Boy Paredes, he is a pure cebuano who went to the training pool with the RP Team of Karatedo before the ASEAN Games. Jim Boy Paredes is the best Kata and Kumite player here in Cebu. In every way you look at it, Jim Boy was really one of the best of the training pool, but why didn't he made to the games? because those that were closest to the trainors were given priority. Our very own player... a pure blood cebuano was ignored... even though he can beat most of those that were chosen to play. If he had been allowed in the games, I'm sure he would have won several medals and give pride for us Cebuanos.
