@mark: it more like this, when the OS is first installed, it writes an internal counter in the registry instead of relying on the BIOS clock. Everyday when the OS rebooted, it checks the days past when it was first installed. So even if you changed the date of your BIOS clock, it still can determine if your OS is not activated and about to expire.

I installed my OS october 1, (with 30 day expiration)
I never turn it on from succeeding days....
until I finally decide to turn it on November 30... far away from 30 days.
I reset the bios and set the date October 1.

    question:

    Will it expires?

theoretically yes, but I haven't actually tried that one.

dli mana accurate ang trial days sa microsoft bro. pwd mana nimo mailad ang OS. for example ang imong software gegamit ky trial nya 2 days nlang b4 ma expire. ang imong buhaton ana pwd ra na nimo usbon ang date sa bios nimo. dapat lang advanced ka sa date. dli pa atras. for example imo gi iswag ug 5 days ang date. so mahimo nana xa ug 7 days b4 ma expire ang windows. so pwd ra pod tngali na mahitabo sa imong software nga gbuhat..

    ^^ sure ka? nakasuway naka?

bro bishop naa ko suggestion: how about you make a hook on the system that continually checks for the number of days remaining for the demo period sa imong software? Irregardless of system date and time of the BIOS, naa ka way to check if 24hours have past and decrement the number of days sa imong demo period.

Nagbuhat man sad ko ug apps before ang akong gibuhat kay wala nako gi.enable ang mga reporting features sa apps and limited ra ang users nga pwede makagamit until they purchase a key from me.

Another idea would be to display a "NAG" screen everytime they open the apps, let it display for a minute and tell them to purchase the full version if they like the software and find it useful then disable important features or limit the number of features allowed in a demo.

that would be easier compared to countdown expiration.

For me, and so far to what I’ve really seen there’s no such thing as security in any Windows application, especially when it comes to licensing.

    Eg.

Windows kernel can be tricked (if you heard about RunAs application, not windows features) where it runs any software on top of windows, with specific date and time injected on the kernel. Try to research, or just PM me if you want to try…

Windows application is fairly easy to debug… by using various Jump Statement under Win32Dasm or HVIEW… you can even view the step by step process, registry being fetch or data being written.

Others implement it via online to continually perform its execution; however it makes your system unstable and dependent over internet….

And lastly, the one which we are using, Flexlm Licensing… with unique dongle… but again, it’s not that safe… in fact, I’ve found some ways how to do it… by determining its SEEDS, product ID’s and VENDOR keys… with this tool which you can use google as starting point (not an English site) can let any expensive software to run the system without any dongle (hardware) to use the application under this licensing schemes.
