right, we are just teasing each other. ayaw kaayo ni dibdiba ninyo nga mga newbies. nikon or canon, pareha ra na silang nindot.

kay bisan pa'g canon user ko, which I am, modawat gihapon ko ug hatagan ko ug nikon nga mas inferior kay sa canon. HA HA HA HA

nobody should take this thread seriosly.

however, with regards to the other brands, I think both top the market not only because of great marketing strategies but also technological advances as well. for example, sony and olympus are notoriously known to have high noise on images even at ISO 400, as well as, very expensive and hard to find accessories. it's not just marketing.

Thank you for the enlightenment sir.

Good technology means more resources for research and development, more resources means the company is doing good and making profit, good profits means great marketing, promotions and good branding. This is how, IMO, how I conceptualize it coming from a R&D company.

My take on this brand wars is that everybody is just playing catch-up with each other. The new models of brand X will be at par with brand Y (plus new feature) in the next few months.

I have read that some Nikon DSLR bodies and Canon (P&S) are using sensors (or a component of a sensor) made by Sony. Pentax/Samsung (these two brands have the same camera build) first semi-pro DSLR body is also using a Sony sensor. I have not tried a Sony camera though so I don't have any say on their performance.

BTW, I am using a Pentax K10D, handle noise pretty well till ISO 800 (but the latest model K20D is much better in the noise area) but slow performance in AF area which can be frustrating if you do sports photography. It's an inexpensive "bang for the buck" DSLR IMO with built-in shake reduction , weather-sealing and Pentax old lenses can still be mounted to it. Pentax lens system is at par with Canon and Nikon in performance except at the very long telephoto end. Lens price is inexpensive so I wonder why there are a few Pentax users in the Philippines (daghan kwarta ang pinoy bisag crisis).

Unfortunately looking for Pentax accessories here in the Philippines is like going on a treasure hunt which may be one of the reasons why there are a few users. Pentax marketing is not that aggressive compared to the big two.

If ever there is improvement in how I shoot (cross fingers) I may upgrade to the big two or stick to my current system hence my constant readings on threads such as this.

    /OT:

But even if a good marketing strategy is in place but the product is bad then everything else will start falling into pieces and vice-versa. It all starts with the product. The product must be good enough before any marketing campaign starts. this coming from experience it as an entrepreneur.

this is not a place to discuss business, so let's all get back to the topic.

    /end of OT.

As for pentax, i did hear that the pentax k10d was also good but it is hard to find here. considering the pentax was also a known brand during the film era. i guess it's the availability of accessories and the body that affects the number of users here.

but in the end, hardly will people ask what camera you used or what lens. it's really about the photograph.
