First off - no luck needed on my XPS. I've had this laptop for 7-8 months now without any major problems. As far as DELL replacing the GPU, I didn't hear anything about it.

2nd - what is the failure rate of the 8600M ... and what is the failure rate of the 9600M? What is the real problem of the 9600M? Are you running such GPU? what problems are you experiencing?

Dude I suggest that you update bios of you gpu if you haven't done so it's only a temporary fix though and will fail eventually...and yes i have had bad experience with NVDIA 8600M and it's not only me..the problem is all over not only here in Phils. I don't trust the new 9600M or any mobile gpu (g84/g86) unless a lot of users have confirmed that NVDIa have out their act together in a year of it's release but for now it's only wishful thinking.

My XPS crashes every now and then like any windows-based PC running VISTA .... as far as my 15" Macbook Pro .. wa man gyud koy problema sukad sukad. Na install nasab diay na nako ang update para sa akong XPS.

As far as the new Macbook Pro .. I'm not gonna throw any negative comments against it kay wala paman guy review ni gawas... di sab ko mo ingon nga bati kay tungod lang sa graphics card.

bro, check model of your macbook pro 15" if it's in the list ---> MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

Btw, are you using your MBP on apllications that requires intensive use of the graphics card? like video editing, graphics, playing games at very high resolution or watching movies at 1080p? If not then likely you will not have the problem like most of us did.

thats such a lame stereotype excuse, like any windows and running vista.

il have you know my Gateway and HP and dell actually have no problem with vista, me and my brother havent had a crash since.... well since. were using AMD and ATI and no probs whatsoever

how come a mac owner using Vista cant game so much on mac? i thought OSX leopard was fun.

with regards to the graphics problem, there is news and users complaining of the Nvidia, stock drivers are getting worse making computers crash. to think most if not all have to depend on NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com

and the high failure rate of the chips doesnt mean the apple in invulnerable. its highly likely but not entirely true. and only time will tell. especially for Nvidia.
    and look for better drivers.

imho macs are overrated and stereotyped

    Yes - it's falls on the category/list

I don't do heavy gaming on it. My Mac is strictly for business. Usahay photo editing pero since napalit nako ang XPS, I stopped using the MAC for photo stuff.

Good for you then - you're not having problems with your VISTA. Again, I experience occasional crashes on my XPS but nothing that I'm not already accustomed to being a long-time windows user.

Your Dell, Gateway, and HP - are they laptops by any chance? Just wondering if DELL laptops can come in with ATI gpu's.

I really don't know much about the NVIDIA issue... but at least NVIDIA is trying to address the problem and putting out updates (does the updated drivers remedy the problem?)

True - time will tell.. like I said in my previous post - the newly introduced Macbook pro hasn't been benced by reviewers so we don't really know how it performs.

Macs being overrated and stereotyped - it's really how people perceive them to be. I know sa Pinas they treat them like they're somekind of a status symbol (same as cellphones and digital SLR's) .. but here, people get them because they need them. I've never heard of people buying MACs for gaming.

ANYWAY - we are way off topic. I'm still checking for reviews of the new Macbook Pro.

Gateway and HP are ATI and bought recently, Dell is really old and im pretty happy with how its been performing, i mean 4 years old and still running pretty decently, used for browsing downloading and occasional gaming hehe im a big fan of homeworld 2 max payne 2 and LOTR return of the king.

all laptops.and none of them crash at all. 1 XP and 2 vista

I'm getting the new Macbook for my wife. Two things she does a lot everyday (and spends hours btw) is looking in front of a mirror and then do work on the computer. Well with the new glass screen on the Macbook, she should be able to do both at the same time.
