ive already finished this series bout 2 months ago, but never saw it discussed here for its entire run, so im starting this thread to inform people of the existence of this well crafted masterpiece.
at first, the poster image shown in anidb.net never enticed me to watch the series nor was its bland title helping its attractiveness. but what it intrigue me was the fairly high temp rating it received from the users, averaging at 8+. curiosity got the best of me and so i gave it a shot.
the animation style is experimental and radical, reminds me of astroboy, which pretty much is out of sync with the current trend, so it gave an aura of an art/indie film. though it really is an unusual take, i think it strengthen the overall feel of the anime.
the soundtrack, especially the opening and ending songs, is very enthralling, enchanting, its soothing yet eerie at the same time. it fittingly sets the mood and tone of this melancholic series.
the story is complex and riveting, its really full of twists and turns, and at times will make you think bout the series' premise, on what it's like when memories can be downloaded into a chip and can be transferred to other bodies. certain situations that arises from this possibility are presented to us thorough the amnesiac hero's journey of self-rediscovery, of recovering his memories.
you really have to be open-minded to appreciate this series and see beyond its animation style (if you view it as a flaw). as for me, so far, this is definitely my top pick for this year.
