Jessica Zafra said the novel is just an excuse to make the film and is just not anywhere near as good as the movie. I agree. Because Elmore Leonard is the master of not only gangster pulp but the entire genre of crime fiction.

I'll look for those books that you mentioned... they all sounds interesting..

as for me i recommend -- 11 Minutes (Paulo Coelho)

the meaning of the story is very deep.. from the ideals of a young lady , to the hard facts of reality
and then acceptance of the things that she cannot change..

my favorite line in the book:

......Eleven minutes. The world revolved around something that
    only took eleven minutes.....

Theme: In this book, Coelho works with the re-emergence of the goddess religion, the interpretation of love, and the feminine face of God within the theme of searching for one’s true self and opening to the energies of the world. - The Witch of Portobello - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No offense pero murag pare-pareha raman sige ang themes sa mga Coelho books. =/ basically all about searching for one's true self. not that it's bad but if you've read at least 2-3 coelhos kay murag kapuy na. hehe.

Unearthing this post (continuing the share and great suggestion of books.)

    ------

*My recommendation and its reviews as of now*

Leo Tolstoy - War & Peace

One of a greatest novel of all time an eccentric meanderings on the philosophy

of historical wartime, clean romantic thriller encodes the rich details of

aristocratic life of imperial Russia while drawing depth about human character

and everyones journey to find happiness in the mist of tragedy and blessings.

    ------

    George Orwell - 1984

Compelling, Brilliantly written., Orwells created a future dystopian

world which is partly i think being happening now. A theme of the dangers

of totalitarianism government bestowed abuse of power. if you want a

book that forces you to think and reflect on todays society the society

of the future or the societies of the past do read this novel as it is

possibly one of the most thought provoking books on the planet.

    -----

    Neal Stephenson - Snow Crash

Technology sociology religion linguistics archaeology history politics

and ethics are PACK into One, this book introduced many concepts that would

become reality., plausible near future world that Stephenson imagined where

franchises rule no one knows the President of the United States.

    -----

Michio Kaku - Physics of the Future

A very insightful book solidly factual vision of our future exploring what

the world may be like in the next 100 years if current basic scientific

research comes to be and some theories pan out.

    -----

Brian Greene - Fabric of the Cosmos

This is one of my favorite of his books next to elegant universe to date on

cutting-edge science, Greene presents the material in a fashion does a great

job explaining complex topics, A very good technical overview of the recent

advances in particle physics and our understanding of the cosmos.

    *Thanks*
