Dropout w/ vast experience vs. inexperience fresh grad vs non-practicing grad w/ PhD

I know someone who took masteral in comsci in the U.S. around 18 years ago, he got work experience in the IT field in the U.S. and Cebu, but the popular programming language at that time is no longer popular now, do you think he can still find a good IT job if he look for one, even though he is not working in the IT field for the last 10 years? Do you think an experienced college drop-out is better or a fresh grad with good grades but null experience?

first situation: did he finished his master's degree?, depends on what is his current job is, but he might have a hard time finding a programming job. a managerial position perhaps would be better?

second situation: depends on what type of experience the college drop out has. a college drop out + experience might also mean he is at the peak of his skills (cant teach old dogs new tricks kinda stuff).

fresh grad with good grades has more potential in the long run, all he needs is proper training, and discipline he could surpass the college drop out + exp, and his a lot cheaper.

depends on the company on how much they are willing to bleed...

In my field where Engineering & IT greatly involves, one should have EDUCATION (must!) and SKILLS (at least some basic) + EXPERIENCE (not required).

We learnt Engineering Mechanics & Strength of Materials in college after solving some problems, examinations, experiments, group works, research and more... I even brought those books with me until now... I got some experience working in shipyards and industries because my family ties are contractors, I use to make drawing plans, sketches, worked in some PLC and instrumentation from manual to pneumatic piping systems. With my fair skills in programming, I was able to work effectively especially in a team. Where not only doing such code because we know how the PC works but knowing 10,000 feet away from the field is either more important.

My company experienced some problems on why the materials shrinkage is too high...We need to write a program that somehow will compensate the weld shrinkage in our system. Recalling my subjects I can easily find those formulas and tables, know where to find the material composition and where to get the standard stress, and tensile strength based from ASTM standard. However it doesn't end on that part... I add extra 5mm which cannot be found in any book...this 5mm is just based on the experience way back when we are building ship hull structures, and thus, after you weld the stiffeners, that plate will shrink about 5mm. then that’s the time you write a piece of code...

Experience without proper education is not enough in some situations and may forcedly go back to study.

Education with no experienceneeds to pump up and learn more from his superiors...

I rather have with good educational background and no experience rather than have such experience guy with no EDUCATION!

We hired around 500 local Indonesians here...and one of our strict requirements is an educated "GRADUATE" of course we can observe how his knowledge are built while at school after some series of exams and interviews.

During the final interview those people who have experience were not able to PASS... only those you who haven't.... one of the reasons from my Russian boss... who conducted the interview were:

"...We want to teach them, the way that we wanted."

I observed that they are at age 20's to 24's good enough to developed their skills and talents seriously. The company invested some education center where their engineers are opting to have a continuous study and this is not mean to DROPPING OUT! When they found that they are more skilled than their teacher. Because part of the education is not to teach them! But somewhat remembered them that this kind of KNOWLEDGE has existed, or correct their IDEAS, the thought of something is like this or that!



My brother (UV) and my sister (USC) always complaining me that how will they learn on their school where their teacher are often not around, teaching them so slow or pressuring them unnecessary stuff… well, I told them, that from the moment you asked me about that, you already learned! And to solve your problem, find yourself a solution not a problem, but continue your school, it’s a lifetime investment, and it’s my little profound SUCCESS to my hard work and REMEDY of being away (as a brother and a son) this time.

If you find your SCHOOL, stupid and dumb, giving you trouble and pain in you ass! wasting your valuable TIME and MONEY. Then go look for other one, In case you can’t find, invest your SKILLS and MONEY to build your own school and invite your friends to come.

It depends ra japon sa company brod..... kay kung la gud kay experience, nsaon man nimo pag catch up sa bag-ong programming language nga nanggawas karon. maglisod gihapon....

nya sa dropout + xp. ok ra kung mo act ghapon cya as college grad... pero di naman na importante.... kay ang work man ang basehan...

"you dont need a PAPER to be successful in life, all you need is skills, the knowledge and the right approach to things you want to do... just be imaginative and innovate and most important na NEED is COMMON SENSE...." sus kung wala ka ana unsaon na lang... bisag naa pa nmu tnan skills, etc nya wala kay common sense d gihapon ka ma successful ana... hahaha..
