i agree jud...he really anchored ateneo's defense..and it was really their defense which gave them the championship. they had such a horrible shooting slump starting pa sa middle of the third quarter..yet la salle was never able to fully capitalize on it. and baclao was the most consistent player..rabeh was very good in game 1 only while chris tiu came through in game 2 ra sad..but baclao, he dominated in defense jud. i loved his block on rico in game 1!

ang ako lang jud gi sayangan noh is the refs called it too tightly in game 2. after rico got thrown out and jv casio fouled out, it was already a sure win na for ateneo. la salle seemed like a headless chicken out on the court. they didnt know who to go to for offense. i wanted to have seen clutch plays after clutch plays from both sides..that would have been more exciting! but im still happy ateneo won!

no one was more deserving of the finals MVP award than nonoy baclao... as cliche as it may sound but defense really did win ateneo the championship. had it not been for their incredible defense, they would have lost game 2. if these was another ateneo team, one which was not defense-oriented, they would have been blown out by la salle in the 4th quarter. when ateneo had the FG dry spell, which started with about 4 minutes remaining in the third canto, they were able to keep themselves in the game and maintain their lead with their defense.

2. As for the opposing side, la sallle supporting casts were the weakest link. Imagine, la salle should not focus only rico maiherhofer and JV Casio. Look at atkins, malabes, barua, mangahas, bagatsing... they were ineffective in 2 games.

funny because i've read a lot of comments from la sallites that both walsham and malabes should be demoted to team B since they were really ineffective during the finals. hehehe! mangahas was throwing bricks the entire series. and barua, who was la salle's barometer for their wins, was also nowhere to be found. in all of la salle's wins, barua score 9 points or more...


all in all, the 2008 UAAP championship just corrected the wrong math given by franz pumaren last year.
2 > 14 (la salle's 2 wins in the finals against ue's 14 wins in the elims)
2 > 3 (2 la salle wins to ateneo's 3 in their head2head matchup)

now:
4 > 0 (need i say more? )

as for atkins, wa kaayo ko kasabot sa dinuwaan niya if he's a "point" guard or "points" guard. murag di man sad gud pansinin kaayo iyang duwa. or maybe i just don't watch non-ateneo games mao wa ko kapansin niya. hehehe! but i guess maayo cguro sya pag HS. kay big deal man kaayo to sa la salle kato na-injure sya in the game against UE kay magcge ingon nga they badly needed his presence during their succeeding games. basin point guard jud cguro na iya duwa kay murag si la revilla ra man ug atkins ila PG sa lineup.

mu-agree man pud ko sa kasagaran lasallites nga niingon i-demote sila walsham ug malabes sa team B. hehehe! kay c walsham ga-ayo lang ang trashtalk pero walag game nga ika-back up sa sturya. kan-on ra sa depensa nilang rabeh ug jobe. c malabes pud kay volume shooter, murag antoine walker nga tira lang ng tira bahalag way shot2x...

ako sad..bilib jud ko sa game ni jv casio. he can really take over a game all by himself. if it wasnt for him, blown out jud tong la salle. he was hitting threes over outstretched hands of the defenders and even if kahibalo ang ateneo that casio was gonna be taking the big shots, they still couldnt stop him esp sa third quarter. sayang lang ay na he fouled out of the game. he would have kept things much more interesting.

it's also yuri escueta's last year. i'm hoping ateneo gets arvie bringas next year kay maayo nga big man nya grabe ang potential. i'm hoping long would elevate his game next year and salamat would improve his game since he would most likely replace tiu in the starting 5.

la salle will have a young team composed mostly of players from the RP youth team. if maierhofer decides to skip his final year, then la salle would have an inexperienced team by next year. i don't know who would be their team captain or floor leader...
