And Sprewell even asked for much cash because "he thinks that Minnesota owes him for what he has done". That's not the type of teammates that Garnett needs to win a title. Look at where Garnett now that he has Paul Pierce and Ray Allen along him. If he only have these kind of teammates before then he should have won more.

That is because of Tim Duncan's leadership ability and maturity that he has allowed Manu and Tony to blossom into the All-Stars that they are today...

Manu and Tony are waaaaaaaaaayyyyy better than Spree and Sam beacuse of Tim Duncan!

Geez....... For the time that they had been playing together, Manu and Tony always ALWAYS gives the credit to Tim Duncan on their success because they know where credit is due...

Maau gali to si Garnett saona ky pag abot ni Cassell ug Spree saona sa Minnesota established and polished All-Star caliber na...

Duncan and Greg Popovich has to mold the 20 year old Tony and the 25 year old rookie from Argentina back then who are pretty much raw on the type of game in the NBA...

Even on his rookie season, Tim Duncan showed the polish, maturity and savvy of a wily veteran and the leadership ability that is undeniable...

On his first season as a Spur, he took the helm of leadership from David Robinson because The Admiral know right then and there that this kid is special...

David was already in decline back then... Sean wasn't healthy either yet Duncan drove them to win a title on that lock-out season...

If Minnesota didn't win back then, someone's got to take the blame ayt? If Garnett was so much as a leader like Duncan then he would have earned the respect of Spree to keep his trap shut and greedily begs for another season to play alongside his brilliance the way Finley and Horry does just to have another season to play alongside Duncan!

It spelled the end for the franchise and no one is more to blame aside from Flip Saunders and the management than is their leader, Kevin Garnett...

Ray and Paul had so much in common with Garnett that it was a no brainer to team up and try winning a title together (calling Iverson, Nowitzki and Carter)...

If it weren't for Paul and Ray, KG would be nothing more than a Karl Malone and a Charles Barkley...

Got the brilliance of a Hall-of-Famer but without a title...

Why? Because Basketball is a team sport and not based on individual talent and no one knows better than Tim Duncan the Greatest Power Forward of all time...

Many might prefer Garnett because of his passionate and exciting play but no one can deny the accomplishments of Tim Duncan's boring game...^^

AFAIK, the Spurs were a LOTTERY TEAM before Duncan came, that's why they got him in the first place. So Duncan being lucky that he went to an already-solid team? Quite the opposite actually: he MADE that team solid since the day he first stepped foot in the NBA!

Manu Ginobili was already an established star when he joined the Spurs. He was picked 57th overall in 1999, unfortunately, a time when international talents aren't that recognized much in the NBA. He was a superstar in Europe and led Argentina to a 2nd place finish in the 2002 FIBA World Championships before finally signing with the Spurs. That's a pretty resume for a player not to become an All-Star.

Tim Duncan, apart from his skills, leadership, and maturity when he came into the league, is blessed playing for the Spurs under Peter Holt and Gregg Popovich. A very good company to be with in keeping himself, his teammates, and the whole team in check, unlike Kevin Garnett under Kevin McHale who had other agendas in mind.

Swap Garnett and Duncan and you'll see my point that Garnett indeed had the lesser teammates. Who ever plays for Minnesota will never win a title.

Manu might be a star in International play but he is unknown entity in the NBA and a gamble when the Spurs drafted him and it was a surprise that he became that good quickly under Duncan and Pop that is why he was pick 57th overall! Why the hell was he picked that long? It is because no one would gamble on him other than the Spurs whatever his International accolades are that is why he is considered as one of the biggest DRAFT STEALS of all-time! It was on 2002 that he rejoined the Spurs and he had not suited up for the Spurs until that time... Same year Dirk and Peja was picked to play in the All-Star game including the 1st pick that season, Yao Ming who was one of the few players including Tim Duncan who was chosen to play in the All-Star game on their rookie season!

Much like how a delightful surprise Scola is to the Rockets...

Duncan is blessed with his innate and undeniable talent that few players including Garnett or Bryant lack which is that of the maturity and leadership that he has and not because of Pop and Holt for chrissake...

If you swap Garneet for Duncan then the Wolves would have gotten that title a long time ago because established stars would be willing to accept a lower salary just to play alongside Duncan unlike Garnett who might seem to be really interesting to others because of his charisma...

Can you imagine Duncan on his 2nd season when he won that title againts the Knicks

His teammates where aging veterans past their primes...

Robinson was coming off an injury that sidelined him most of the year...

Elliot was battling with injuries also...

    From Wiki:

In the 1997 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs drafted Duncan with the first draft pick. The Spurs were coming off a poor 1996–97 season; their best player, David Robinson—himself a number one draft pick in 1987—was sidelined for most of the year with an injury, and they had finished with a 20–62 win-loss record.[12] However, as the 1997–98 season approached, the Spurs were considered a notable threat in the NBA. With an experienced center in Robinson and the number one pick in Duncan, the Spurs featured one of the best frontcourts in the league. Duncan and Robinson became known as the "Twin Towers", having earned a reputation for their exceptional defense close to the basket, forcing opponents to take lower percentage shots from outside. From the beginning, Duncan established himself as a quality player: in his second-ever road game, he grabbed 22 rebounds against opposing Chicago Bulls power forward Dennis Rodman, a multiple rebounding champion and NBA Defensive Player of the Year.[13] Later, when Duncan played against opposing Houston Rockets Hall-of-Fame power forward Charles Barkley, Barkley was so impressed he said: "I have seen the future and he wears number 21 [Duncan's jersey number]."[14] In his rookie season, Duncan lived up the expectations of being the number one draft pick, starting in all 82 regular-season games, and averaging 21.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.5 blocks per game.[3] His defensive contributions ensured that he was elected to the All-Defensive Second Team and was also named NBA Rookie of the Year, having won the NBA Rookie of the Month award every single month that season. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich lauded Duncan's mental toughness, stating his rookie's "demeanor was singularly remarkable", Duncan always "put things into perspective" and never got "too upbeat or too depressed." Center Robinson was equally impressed with Duncan: "He's the real thing. I'm proud of his attitude and effort. He gives all the extra effort and work and wants to become a better player."

P.S. If you search all over the net about the Garnett-Duncan comparison, it would not be a surprise that Duncan is picked as the winner by ALL the Basketball analysts... Averaging 23ppg, 12.7rpg, 2.7bpg and 3.5 apg on his playoffs career... And that is with consistency since his rookie season...

NOT ONE picked Garnett... NOT ONE...

Look it up if you doubt my word...

"n his basketball career, Duncan has collected a number of individual and team honors, including being a two-time MVP (2002, 2003), four-time NBA champion (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007) and three-time NBA Finals MVP (1999, 2003, 2005). As a college player, he was named ACC Male Athlete of the Year, won the John R. Wooden Award and was named Naismith College Player of the Year (all 1997).[10] In his debut year in the NBA (199, he was voted Rookie of the Year and elected into the All-NBA Rookie Team, made the first of ten NBA All-Star Teams (nine First Team nominations), 11 All-NBA Teams (nine First Team nominations), and 11 All-Defensive Teams (eight First Team nominations).[3] With these impressive performances, Duncan is one of only four players to receive All-NBA First Team honors in each of his first eight seasons (1998–2005), along with Hall of Famers Bob Pettit (ten seasons), Larry Bird (nine seasons), and Oscar Robertson (nine seasons), and is notably the only player in NBA history to receive All-NBA and All-Defensive honors in his first nine seasons (1998-2006).[75]

Duncan was also named by the Association for Professional Basketball Research as one of "100 Greatest Professional Basketball Players of The 20th Century", the youngest player on that list. In the 2001–02 season, he won the IBM Player Award[77] and The Sporting News (TSN) MVP Award, becoming the third player to ever win the NBA MVP, IBM Player and TSN Player Awards in the same season. In 2003, Duncan was ranked 55th by Slam Magazine in their list of the "Top 75 NBA players of All Time". On February 18, 2006, he was named one of the Next 10 Greatest Players on the tenth anniversary of the release of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team by the TNT broadcasting crew."

    Compare it to Garnett's...

    Oh by the way...

This is the reason why the Wolves was not able to sign quality teammates to surround Garnett and why Marbury was traded...

"During the 1997-98 NBA season, the Timberwolves and Garnett agreed on a six-year contract extension that was worth an unparalleled $126 million.[5] This was met with shock around the NBA, and the Timberwolves were used as scapegoats for the lockout that occurred the next season. The contract was a risky move and many pundits speculated that the deal would make it impossible for the Wolves to sign new players or even keep their own. Despite the furor over his new contract, Garnett continued to improve, averaging 18.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. Again, he was an All-Star, and the Timberwolves finished with their first winning record in franchise history (45–37 for the season). For the second consecutive year the young Timberwolves bowed out of the playoffs in the first round, this time losing 2–3 against the Seattle SuperSonics and superstar point guard Gary Payton. The two wins against the Sonics marked the Wolves' first-ever playoff game wins. The off-season started poorly for the Timberwolves though as 20 point per game scorer Tom Gugliotta left to the Phoenix Suns."

    And...

"In the 2004-05 NBA season, the Timberwolves experienced serious internal friction as Cassell and Sprewell pokered for better contracts and Hudson was unhappy as a reserve. Garnett was named to the All-NBA Second Team,[2] but with a mediocre 44–38 record, the Timberwolves failed to make the playoffs after eight consecutive years. The 2005-06 NBA season brought more frustration for Garnett. With Sprewell and Cassell refusing to stay and stuck WITH A MEDIOCRE SQUAD, the Timberwolves skidded to a 33–49 record. Despite Garnett's play, the team logged the second worst record since Garnett joined the franchise. On 10 May 2007 Garnett was named to the All-NBA Third Team."

Reason why Cassell and Spree dismissed another season to play alongside Garnett..

    More proof?

The argument is beyond asinine. I don't even have to go to per40's or per48's to prove that Duncan is statistically dominant over Garnett in almost every major category -- and particularly in categories like rebounding:

Start at the very beginning, for his career, Garnett has played in 2 more seasons than Duncan and, at the end of the 2006-07 regular season, had played almost 8,000 more minutes than Duncan in NBA games. (KG - 35,536; TD - 27,964). Over their shared careers, Duncan has played more Minutes per game than Garnett only twice (1998-99; 2001-02). Over the courses of their respective careers, Duncan has played 37.5 mpg to Garnett's 38.3 mpg. So, Garnett has been on the floor more -- giving him, in his own special way, more time to roll up numbers.

You'd think, then, that KG would have some pretty big leads on Duncan in major categories.

    You'd, of course, be wrong.

Timmy is the better scorer, having averaged 21.83 ppg for his career over Garnett's 20.54. Tim is 29th all-time in PPG; Garnett is 44th.

Tim is the better shooter from the field, having shot .509 for his career to Garnett's .491.

Timmy is also the better rebounder, in terms of rebounds per game, offensive rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game, and rebound rate. Tim grabs 11.88 rpg for his career (18th all-time), Garnett gets 11.37 (21st all-time). Tim has better offensive rebounding numbers per game (3.2 to 2. and better defensive rebounding numbers (8.7 to 8.6). And Timmy's rebound rate ("an estimate of the percentage of missed shots a player rebounded while he was on the floor") is 18.28 (16th all-time) to Garnett's 17.17 (42nd all-time). Garnett is the better rebounder, my eye.

Not surprisingly, Timmy is the better shot blocker, too. Tim gets 2.47 blocks per game (14th all-time) while KG gets 1.70 blocks per game (36th all-time).

Ultimately, Garnett -- the fantasy dream -- actually does worse than Duncan when comparing more universal metrics like PER, too. Duncan's career PER is 25.17 (6th all-time); Garnett's is 23.84 (15th all-time).

So, where does that leave us. Clearly, Garnett is a better free throw shooter (.780 to .680). He's a better percentage shooter from 3 (.289 to .197). He gets about an assist per game more than Duncan (4.5 to 3.2). And he gets about half a steal more per game than Duncan (1.4 to ..

That's an impressive array of numbers to back up an argument that Garnett is as good or better than Tim Duncan. I'm truly blown away.
