Yes Thanks for asking this question in this thread.
I've been waiting for someone to ask me this question.
Many have tried to quit and many failed.
Because, (1)they do not understand fully the reasons why they smoked in the first place.
(2)they do not have the conviction or determination to quit
(3)they are ignorant of the consequences
It is important to know everything about smoking and nicotine in particular.
To control something like smoking: you need to understand everything about smoking:
(1)How it started,
(2)why do you crave for it
(3)and what are the effects of smoking.
So this is a long process to explain.
I hope you will bear with me on this topic.
It's okay for anybody to answer intelligently in this thread.
Of course, I would appreciate it if people respects the thread starter and ask permission first.
But, cosplay is a friend so I don't really mind if he answers questions here.
I'm happy if people share their answers as long as I (too) can learn from them.
As long as they do not dilute the answers I am giving.
To gain self confidence:
you have to
(1)Believe in your self.
(2)Dismiss your doubts and fears. Do not listen to negative comments about your self.
(3)Be good in what you do.
One can gain self confidence by doing the right thing and making the right decisions.
(4)Surround yourself with positive thinkers and supportive people.
Work hard on your strengths.
Practice more on whatever you are doing.
The less you commit mistakes the bigger your chances of gaining more self confidence.
Basically the principle is,
you can not control something that you can not measure.
In this case you can not control smoking
unless you know enough why you smoke and what are the effects of smoking.
To control something like the habit of smoking,
you have to understand everything about smoking.
Start with the why-
Why did you smoke in the first place.
This could be one of the keys on where to start in how to quit smoking.
Analyze how did you get to smoke, in the first place.
Step one.
There are many reasons why a person smoke.
(1)exposure (your father smokes)
(2)peer pressure (everyone else is also smoking)
(3)to compensate for certain personal insecurities
(I'm not good at anything- I want them to see how good I smoke)
(4)emulating ("my hero smoke so will I") or ("my teacher smoke so it must be cool to smoke too".)
(5)you are programmed by TV and media ads.
(6)curiousity
This is the first thing to do. Analyze why did you start to smoke.
Then we will work from there.
Yes, there are more things to do before you are able to stop smoking.
First things first.
@Babynforce please try to answer this question
Why did you start smoking?

I'll just share this copyrighted site helpwithsmoking.com:
The reasons why people start smoking are different to the reasons why people continue to smoke and find it almost impossible to give up.

Up until fairly recently most people, especially non-smokers, considered smoking to be a personal choice and that if a smoker really wanted to quit, he could easily do so.
Now, it has been medically proven, recognised and more widely accepted that the reason people continue to smoke, despite the severe health risks smoking entails, is because nicotine is a highly addictive drug.
In fact, some doctors have reported that nicotine is just as addictive as heroin or cocaine, which indicates quite clearly as to how people become hooked so rapidly and stay hooked for so long.
Although the amount of nicotine that enters the body is extremely small, it is still enough for smokers to become dependant on nicotine, thus developing a nicotine dependency, which makes it extremely difficult for them to stop smoking.
Nicotine is an organic compound that is found naturally in the tobacco plant. It is composed of carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen and belongs to a group of compounds called alkaloids. Plants usually produce these types of chemical poisons so that animals are deterred from eating them.
In high concentrations nicotine acts as a nerve poison and it is used in insecticides. However, in small amounts, nicotine is a stimulant that enhances brain activity and concentration and improves cognitive processing as well as a person's memory. On the downside, nicotine increases blood pressure and heart rate, causes you to breathe faster and less deeply and it constricts the arteries.
Nicotine also suppresses the appetite, which is one of the main reasons why many women are not keen on giving up smoking. They assume that they will eat more, which will consequently lead to gaining a lot of weight.
This page explains why it is very difficult to stop smoking.
