How to send/receive fax message using my PC?

I got a friend who said she can send/receive fax message using her pc. I lost contact with her and i want to know how.. Theoritecally, i think thats possible with a fax machine but i just dont know if theres a software to be used.Can anyone help me? Thanks ahead..

if ur pc came w/ a fax/phone modem then that's possible. windows supposedly comes with a fax software - microsoft fax. but it is not installed automatically. u need to have the installer cd to install. i'm sure there r other ways, too.

you need a modem(internal/external), siempre with drivers para ma install nimo sa imo pc.
you need a phone line, fax communicates using phone lines.
you need a fax software to control the modem.
you need a scanner to scan your document, convert the hardcopied document into a soft copy .jpg puede na. if no scanner, take a picture of the document, then download into your PC. or you can use office software and create the document.

ang imo PC kung makadawat ug fax, dili na moluwa ug papel. It stores the faxed document in your hard disk, imo i print para naa ka hardcopy. so, need pud ka ug printer. dapat naa ink ang printer.

if ur pc has the built-in fax/phone modem, then just check if microsoft fax is installed, usually, start>all programs>accessories>communications>fax. if not then u hav to install that from ur installer thru windows components installation. or u can use a different fax software altogether.

then, u need to plug a connection from ur telephone line to ur modem line-in jack. either from the split line coming from ur dsl modem/router or from an entirely separate splitter. fax will work over the phone line, not over the internet.
