Batangas takes 2-1 lead over Pampanga


LIPA, Batangas — Bonbon Custodio and Jeffrey Sanders rallied back Lipa/Batangas over Pampanga as they scored the Barakos’ final six points in a 99-91 win in Game 3 of their Smart-Liga Pilipinas playoffs late Wednesday night at the Lipa Cultural Center here.

The home team stared at a 73-79 deficit entering the final period when the Barakos suddenly waxed hot behind Custodio and Sanders, who presided over a 20-10 run in the next eight minutes to stay on top for good, 93-89.

The duo then scored Lipa’s final six points to clinch the win that moved the Barakos closer to earning a berth in the semifinals.

The Barakos now leads the best-of-five quarterfinals series, 2-1, with a chance to close out the Buddies at home where Game 4 will also be played.

Custodio, the former University of the East star shooting guard, paced the Barakos with 23 points, Sanders had 14 and Don Camaso 10.

Emerson Oreta paced the fourth seeded Buddies with 16 markers while Don Villamin and Larry Rodriguez each had 12 points.

Highly-touted Fil-Am Jared Dillinger, a potential first-round pick in this coming PBA Annual Draft, also shone for the Buddies with 11, but Pampanga just couldn’t hold off Lipa during the entire stretch of the fourth period.
