well...it can be determine in the job. not in the hiring process I guess.
but so far, programmers are bundle with patience, team player and determination.

For me I go for the specialist who can give results and with good attitude of course.

In all types of job, ATTITUDE matters the most. Skills can be learned. I hire people who are trainable and have good attitude. I don't hire people who are programming experts but with undesirable attitude.

experience is the best teacher. not all programming languages are taught @ school. what you are studying today might be already obsolete when you graduate, that is the downside of IT.

I agree skills can be learned but what if a person has good attitude but unfortunately a slow learner?
