lightning and its effects to television set and other appliances

how true is it that lightning can destroy some appliances like television set? my father use to tell me to turn off the TV when it is lightning...

hmm.. my father use to say that too pero i think with current techonology it dosent matter much.. i guess.. pero kita ko isa ka episode sa mythbusters ila gi experament ang lighting mo ambak from the phone to you if mo gamit ka.. human ila gi test ang tv and other appliances ok ra man..

your father is partly right.

but you must not just turn it OFF. unplug it from the wall outlet. ilabi na ug naa kay aerial antenna.

Nowadays, TV antennas are mostly indoors due to availability of cable networks. But just the same, if naa lightning storms ibta gyud sa AC or wall outlet ang plug sa imo TV. unya ibta pa gyud imo cable connection.

Sa ako sister, gi OFF ra niya ang TV, pagkilat igo ang poste sa VECO two blocks away.
Resulta, halos sila tanan sa neighborhood guba ila mga TV.
Unya beyond repair pa gyud.
So, na bag-o hinuon ila TV, latest model pa gyud. Dili hinuon to LCD. hehehe
